e220 three modem only works with sim supplied

Hi,

I recently bought an e220 three.co.uk modem. I already have a PAYG sim which I use for mobile broadband on my laptop by using my phone as a modem.

The sim supplied with the e220 modem seems to work fine as when I plug is in, I can connect and browse three.co.uk just like on a phone.

When I insert my old PAYG sim into the modem and plug it in, it boots up fine, showing hte signal strength etc, however It will not connect.

Any ideas on how to get my new moden to connect when using my old PAYG sim. i could top up my new PAYG sim but I already have plenty of GB's to use on my old PAYG sim.

Some advice here http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/networking/?p=431

I have upgraded firmware on mine which is from 3 Australia and is more stable.

Is your old sim a 3 mobile sim?
You could try unlocking the dongle so that it accepts any simcard and see if that works.
Check out my other post on how to do it.

Yes...

three wont tell you this but you need to create a new connection profile in the software with the following settings:

APN: 3internet
Authentication
Number: *99#

leave everything else blank

these are exactly the same as what is already there but the original sim card is paired to the modem and by creating a new connection it bypasses it (lol)

Hi,

Nope that doens't work. Her'es what did work though. I changed the APN to dynamic, rather than 3internet

Let's hope it keeps working. It's definitely faster than my old phone.
