Today, EA revealed EA Access, an Xbox One-exclusive subscription service that grants players access to EA's so-called Vault.

Subscribing to EA Access will cost $4.99 a month (or $29.99 a year), and since the program is technically in beta, only four games will initially be available: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4, "with more titles being added soon."

Additionally, EA Access will also net subscribers 10 percent discounts on all EA digital content, which includes full games and DLC, as well as access to trials of new EA games nearly a week before they come out (with saves that copy over to the final game, should you choose to purchase it later). Games that will be eligible for early access and save copy-over are Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA Live 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Memberships can be purchased on Xbox Live, and will also be available at retail stores like GameStop and online destinations like Amazon. The subscription service will launch "soon," according to EA, and will be available in North America and Europe.

We'll have more on EA Access as soon as it launches.

If you like EA games then this sounds like a decent little rental service, not sure why people are seemingly angry about it.

Your cute, if that's you in the profile picture.

( I am not an old weirdo just an 19 year old one haha)

Sorry now completely on topic, seems pretty good value if you like ea games.

Just sold my copy of Battlefield 4 for £20, and shall be spending that £20 on 12 months of EA Access, I'd be mad not to. I get BF4 back, plus a bunch of other games now and for the next 12 months and a discount.

eh?

I could sell my copy of battlefield, which would roughly pay for a years subscription and be able to play that and other games for the year. What are you complaining about?

Sooo you pay for your phone line, then your isp, then xbox live and then EA Access?

Good luck with that but I'm sure plenty of FIFA mugs will buy it unfortunately.

I don't get how your phone line etc is relevant but this is $29.99 to play EA games for the year. Obviously it doesn't appeal to you but I can't see how this could be mugging anybody off.

Please elaborate?

If you buy one of their annual games anyway (like FIFA) then its a bargain because then you get to play all their other games too like BF, Dead Space, mass effect, need for speed.

I'd get this if it came to playstation.

EA is notorious for trying to get every penny from its customers.

My sympathy goes to those who play the Sims 3. The total package will cost you over £400 and that's just for the digital downloads. Then you have the Sims Store, where you can spend thousands more. oO

Well US is $29.99. No price announced as yet for UK. Although can probably just use a US account anyway.

I thought people would have been happy with this. If your getting a Battlefield or Fifa anyway should be worth it. Only problem is it is Xbox only.

Yeah service is coming to Europe aswell but no prices for that as yet. Knowing how it usually works will be a lot higher for us. Can probably just use a US account to get the $29.99 price though.

I think it's a good deal anyway. I would use it if it was on PS4. Would need to know some details about the games. If they are to keep, are they rotated etc though.

You deal with US prices a lot so how much more are we talking? My son has the X1 so if it was around £40 I'm sure I could do that.

Yeah even £50 would be decent for me if it includes the latest fifa and battlefield then I would be happy. Throw in games like Dragon Age Inquisition and even better. Just need to know if they rotate the games and if you keep them if downloaded and subscription kept up with etc.

Actually now I am thinking it is less worth it than I originally thought. For me anyway. Fifa and Battlefield are games i would get on release and play for the year. By the sounds of it after a few days early play you have to buy the latest games then maybe 6 months down the line they get included in the sub (like BF4 and fifa 14 now). For the avid EA players this probably wouldn't appeal. That is if I am reading into how it works correctly. Which I am not sure.

wow!
What is wrong with these plebs....
They may have the market on football.... but they are going to lose it on subs....

dont they learn?

After the crapness that was BF4 and to a lesser degree BF3, ive already vowed to not buy anymore BF games, especially after playing hardline - what a joke that was!!!
But subs? on games? on xbox? HAHAHAHAHA

It gets less appealing for me when I think of the micro transactions. He constantly asks me for money to buy new players for his ultimate team and I say I bought you some the other day and his reply is I sold them to get new players which he clearly didnt because he's back asking me.

Its like crack for kids.

For £20 a year I would probably give it a go if it was on PS4. Have to admit Xbox has been putting a lot of effort in lately.

so will this basically run like games with gold only all EA titles?

1. you get the 12 month membership and redeem it
2. you just download the available ea games onto ya hardrive
3. you can play them as much as want INSIDE having the membership

does this also mean we will be seeing older xbox 360 titles come onto xbox one such as the dead space games etc?

I don't understand this - My interpretation is that the subscription entitles you to early access and discounts on DLC and full games. Therefore, the perception that Fifa, Madden BF4 and Peggle will be freely accessible as part of this subscription is HIGHLY unlikely.

EA doesn't give away anything - we all know that by now, so the idea of them letting you access games for free (then saying you can buy games cheaper??) sounds like bull to me.

This is a case of too good to be true.

It clearly states that 'The Vault' will contain full copies of said games for free download and play once subscription is paid for. The early access is additional to this for future title releases

OK, so you might get 4 games now. In the future you have to pay for the rest? So the point of the subscription is to have access to games you most likely already own, then get 10% discount on future [bdigitial[/b] purchases of the games? Considering the historical price of new digital games, I can't see this being better than buying physical.

Time will tell.

Time will tell indeed. They have said the list of 'Vault' games will be added to overtime but obviously this is the biggest unknown for now!

I guess anyone who was thinking about FIFA or Battlefield (or the other games) specifically cant really go too wrong at £20 for the year!

hmmm, now on second thoughts i'm not sure they would let us play new games for just £19.99 a year.
I wonder how many months after release their new games would come to 'the vault', and if they stay there forever, or are rotated with other games. If they are rotated, would you still be able to play them after like you can with games with gold?
