Ebay

Hi

I have got some stuff on ebay at the moment which I have listed as auctions, I keep getting people asking whether they can buy it now. Is it possible to sell something 'buy it now' when you haven't listed it like that? Isn't it bad manners to all the people who have already been watching/bidding?

Cheers for the help

Jo

Alot of people will try and get you to sell something relatively cheap, hence offer the buy it now question. i have to admit, I have stopped an auction early and sold to the highest bidder but I now let any auction run - you never know you may get well over what you may think (I bought something off ebay for £11 and resold it for £55!

If they want to make you a sound offer then just add a bin option at that price, I always say that if you want to wait until the last sec to bid then you take the risk of losing it. If you have checked the completed prices on similar items and they are offering the same then go for it.. these buyers are usually trying to nick the item cheap though so be sure..

Who cares, as long as you sell it and get the cash that you want for it....to **** with everyone else....

sell your stuff to whoever wants it at the price you are happy with...take the cash, post the item and enjoy :)

Thanks for the advice guys, I was going to leave the auction to run but now I am a bit annoyed because the high bidder (with 0 feedback) has unfairly retracted their bid and now it looks like it is going cheap... don't know if the two users know each other or something!

I have had people offer to buy it now and offer to collect and pay cash, sometimes its a way of offering to bypass ebay and its fees etc, :)

If they are going to collect and pay you on collection you can cancel the listing, I sold a car that way a few years ago, one guy asked to view it, came out offered cash so I cancelled the listing and took the money. But be careful that ebay dont catch you they frown on that sort ofthing.

I bet loads of people must do that on cars! Can you actually cancel a listing where someone has bidded? Quite a lot of the people asking me are from abroad.

You can cancel up to a certain I think, but its been a while since I sold anything tbh. I personally wouldnt send abroad so never had that problem, I would be too wary that it was a scam

I've done it before and it has been fine but the trouble is you can't really track the delivery without paying a fortune so not sure if they could scam it and get paypal to refund claiming they never received.

It could be something called bid shielding, it's quite common now on some items. One bidder bids stupidly high and then cancels the bid leaving it a lot lower than it should be and the possibility of getting it at a rock bottom price on another id.
Deffo report the retraction, if it is someone having a laugh with bid retractions ebay will restrict them to BIN's and eventually suspend them. They can only look into the reported ones though:)

Yea read a bit about that and reported the user, the bid stands at 99p with another user who could technically have set up another account to do this. I tried investigating items they had bought on their feedback to see if they had had bids retracted too, I don't suppose you would know whether this would show up? Wouldn't usually consider it but the offer to buy it now is for £15 including postage to someone in Poland but it would be just my luck that they report it to paypal not received and recorded to Poland would be a bomb.
