Ebay advice wanted.

greg_68greg_68

Looking to book a holiday through ebay, it doesn't start until the summer holidays by which time the 45 paypal protection will have long run out if I pay the lump sum now and it all goes belly up.

Is there anything I can do to protect myself in any other way.

I have asked the seller if I can pay a deposit now and the remainder on the day we get there, assuming they reject this what other protection can I get for £1k+?

Seller has very low feedback.

Do they qualify for ABTA protection or what ever the holiday protection is?
Use a credit card to fund the PayPal purchase, think that give more protection.

If neither is applicable walk away.

lol....got my main holidays off ebay for the past 4 years at a snip of what most others pay, usually get them for around 60% of the full rate but usually leave it until a week or so before the holiday so I have been covered before. This deal is a good one though but has come a little earlier than usual so am a little worreid about the payment protection.

lol......you like many other have not realised just how big the holiday trade on ebay is then, pity the fools who pay full price for their holidays then.

Buyers can file a case under the eBay Buyer Protection policy only when all of the following are true:

You paid for the item in full with one payment. Items purchased with multiple payments - such as a deposit followed by a final payment - aren't eligible.

    Be careful OP!

13.3 What type of payments are eligible for re-imbursement under PayPal Buyer Protection?

PayPal Buyer Protection only applies to PayPal payments for certain tangible, physical goods that can be posted. Payments for the following are not eligible for re-imbursement under PayPal Buyer Protection:

    services
travel tickets (including, without limitation, airline flight tickets)

Thanks for the useful advice, if they let me pay a deposit I'd be happy with that though as the lump sum wouldn't be paid until we were there and happy. Nothing suspicious about the deal just a little wary at paying more than 45 days away from the event. A little like a lot of concert tickets sold on ebay I guess, just a much higher value.

Are you going to post a link? Sure user has good feedback etc

I am not posting a link, what would you like to know about the description? As above seller has very little feedback.

So I can assume by the lack of any real feedback with protection advice there is nothing I can do to increase my protection and I will either have to chance it or drop it?

Tis a risk then due to this, but offer payment on arrival like you said and see what he says

Exactly the reply i have got from everyone else.........until I show them where I am going on my holidays, where I am staying and how much I paid for the privelege. Strangely enough a fair few of these people now book their holidays through ebay too. As I said above if you want to pay full price for your holidays then fair enough.

Hey, dont put him off, I could do with the paypal money.

Personally i would rather pay more and know im safe. Or as you have done holidays on ebay before go through a seller you have previously used. You may save a lot but if it goes tits up you lose the holiday completely

Can't you buy it through ebay now, and get all the booking details confirmed from the travel agent (assuming he is reselling a package holiday). If the travel agent doesn't confirm it, then you could open an "item not as described" case against the seller straightaway - you wouldn't need to wait until the date of the holiday

If the seller is a travel agent and not ABTA regulated, I would leave it
