Looking to get something from ebay slightly cheaper than they listed the item for. I offered to pay direct to his paypal, is it safe if I send the payment as "goods", will i be covered by ebay? - They have agreed to proceed this way. But I want to know if i will be covered or not.

Thanks

No, eBay will not cover you if you don't purchase it directly within eBay.
Paypal 'goods' will cover you for goods not arriving but, as far as I am aware, they wil not cover you if they are not as described.

Via paypal, the guy has ended the ebay item for me so no one buys it. So im guessing its all genuine?

tbh, there's no way we can tell from the little info you have given.
You're taking a risk but seeing as you have already agreed to it and the seller has removed it from sale it's a bit late to be asking the questions now.

So let's get things straight

You saw something on eBay
You arranged with the seller for them to end the auction early and to deal with them direct
You want to pay with PayPal
You want the protection that buying on eBay through PayPal gives but aren't using eBay

Is that right?

How about I protect your purchase instead.

Just out of curiosity what is the item and how much are you paying?

pay for it through eBay but at the details page there is the option for you to put in a discount. Put however much cheaper you have agreed in there.

All done through eBay so you would be covered with whatever protection applies

You missed
You arranged everything and got the seller to end the auction early then decided you might mess him about by asking people if its safe and if you don't get the answers you want not go ahead with the purchase.

People really need to understand this PayPal is not a safe way of paying
The only way you have any protection when paying with PayPal is if
A. The item is over £100
B. you fund the purchase either partly or in full with a credit card

You do get full protection if you purchase a physical item via eBay and pay with PayPal

If you pay with PayPal funds or debit card bank account funds you can end up with nothing even if you win a PayPal dispute as they only refund what funds they can recover from the scammers account

If you part fund with a credit card the credit card company is jointly liable for the purchase so they will refund in full the amount paid.

As I said earlier you only need to part fund the purchase with the card even 1p is enough
The same applies to any purchase in any store which is why you should always use a credit card to part fund any large purchase

OP you scammed me as I & you will only ever know & to add weight to my argument you have had more run ins with other buyers on here.
You then think people are foolish to believe you "Found" an iphone in a drawer & did not know the password & stated that it was a gift from your brother from the year before. Not to forget in that year you have been on here & ebay buying & selling iphones.

Someone in that said Thread (Link below) suggested the Obvious & that was to get the password from your brother & your reply was a little embarrassing.
