Ebay again

I am doing a little bit of buying and selling in ebay in the past year, feedback 158 now.

Sorry it is a long story.

I managed to get two Wii fits recently and put them on ebay - Buy it Now for £82.99+ £19.99. I know it seems a lot, but after cost price, courier, ebay and paypal charges I will get approx £10.

Anyway, last saturday three ebayers had emailed about local pickup. I emailed them back that they can if they are willing to pay £5 charge. One guy responded quickly that he will pick up the same day. I left the Wii fit with my husband to hand it to the guy after taking £87.99 and went to town. When I came back from town a guy knocked at the door and asked for Wii fit and my husband said someone had already picked it up. Anyway I gave him the other Wii fit I had. Apparently, when I had gone shopping, a lady had rung home taking phone number from ebay and has asked for address for local collection. My husband thought this ebayer is the one I mentioned. Her husband who came to pick up seems to have been puzzled at the £5 charge but paid.

In a couple of hours time, I received an email from the lady that £5 charge is wrong and not mentioned in the listing. I emailed and rung her to explain the mix up and I will pick the Wii fit from her and refund her. She was soooooooooooooo rude and said it not her problem, her kids are using it and she is not happy (read as negative feedback) and she wants £5 back. I refunded it to her Paypal the next day. I was so shocked about her rudeness and spent the Sunday (my birthday) in tears.

I don't think it is fair. If she is not happy, her husband should not have picked the item and she should not have used it before settling the issue with me.

Is there anything I can do at all?

Thanks in advance.

oops, forgot to mention Buy it now :-D

Should have punched her square in the ovaries.

In all honesty there is nothing you can do. However you can find her address and get your husband to slash her tyres!
#5
If its not mentioned in the listing i can see why she'd not be prepared to pay it

No reason for her to be rude though :x
#6
did the listing have the collect in person option? if it did it and stated £5 then you dont need to refund

ah...makes sense now....

to be honest I think there's nothing you can do...yeah she shouldnt have used it and he shouldnt have paid it if he disagreed...

personally I wouldnt pay anything if I was picking something up...if it was mentioned in the listing there is nothing she can do to argue it though...has she negged you? if so ask Ebay to remove it...she got the money back and got the item at price stated....

im sure people would be able to use her phone number for a bit of revenge

Ebay will no longer remove any feedback under any circumstances. All you can do is leave a cool and well thought out response to the feedback. Whatever you do, do not call them a Tw4t or anything else to that effect.

she was right if it was not stated on your listing and if you said the above i would be a bit peeved a buyer charged more and then instead of refunding said they would take it back as some sellers do this so the buyer decides to pay the extra as they want to keep it. Just a missunderstanding on both ends don't take it to heart.

just make sure you leave negative feedback for her

Sellers can no longer leave negative feedback for buyers.

just make sure you leave negative feedback for her

How? :?
Until I finish my course (mature student ) I need some extra money. So I need to be in ebay with 100% feedback if I can help it.
#16
i dont get the £5 to begin with, why are you charging it?
#17
Why was there a £5 charge for pick up in the first place?

and if it wasn't in the llsting and she wasn' told of any additional charges that you add on to negate the small profit you'd make on postage then fair enough.

no need to for her to be nasty though I'd have just left you a neg and reported you to ebay.

I aimed to make £10 profit. If I just allowed local collection, I will only make £5. My other £5 profit is in the postage bit
It seems so foolish now. I shouldn't have allowed local pick up

imho put it down to experience..

I would also never charge for collection...maybe you should try and flog things that you make some money on...making money on the collection seems wrong to me

nothing you can do...certainly its not what I would do...obvo this woman is just a rude person...not everyone is friendly in life....again put it down to experience

Lets be realistic here, if you charged £19.99 for postage and never mentioned anything about £5 pick up fee then I'm not surprised you got the reaction you got, albeit a rude one.

Put yourself in their shoes, if you bought something from someone who was, say a few minutes drive away, turned up and they said £5 please without informing you about it before the sale, I think you'd be pretty miffed too.

Like the other replies. Put it down as a lesson learned with experience.

it was not the product it was your extra charge and if you hadnt of refunded it she would of contacted ebay she was in the right so she didnt need to not use it.

Totally agreed, which is why I am offering to pick it up from her house and she can buy it somewhere else.:?

why would anyone want that? people would just want the £5 back

So you're one of those people that rip people off with inflated postage and packing fees? (Me too)

Agreed got no prob with overpricing the postage to make a few quid, its there for all to see before they bid, but this fiver wasnt and id be going mad also if i got there and they wanted 5 quid that wasnt mentioned.

not really...the woman knew nothing of the £5 charge so she was annoyed...she obvo thinks she got the item for the price she paid...

if no price was mentioned and nothing said until arrival...to be honest it would be very unreasonable to expect the item back

if it was me and you then wanted the item back I would tell you where to go..sorry but that is the case, not my prob cause you havent made a decent profit on it

Methinks you're taking the transaction a little personal here. Like you said, all you want to do is make a little extra cash...I'm all for that but its business. Dont let the emotional side of things hamper it. Anyone whos ever tried to make a little extra cash on fleabay has gone thru similar experiences, thats how they learned.

The question you have to ask yourself is "Is this going to matter to me in 6 months, a year, five years time?". If the answer is no then deal with it and move on. If the answer is yes, well start Googling for some good psychologists.

Seriously, forget about it. The deal is over and done with. Leave it at that and be happy with yourself for trying hard to make a few quid instead.

they bought it under the conditions stated in the listing the fact you didnt state the fiver you wanted to con out of her is your problem not hers. you agreed to the listing terms the moment it went on public display

but maybe in future add the extra £5 onto the buy it now price instead of charging for pick up...

Yes, but then she would have to pay fees on it.

The OP spending her birthday crying about it suggests something deeper going on in the background.
