eBaY anonymous bidding

I HATE what ebay have done with the bidding information, they've gone and bloody ruined it now

Now you can't check out who you're competing with and it could be the same person or friend of the person who's selling it, great way to destroy trust of ebayers

How can you promote a community on the one hand and then veil auctions in secrecy? and this is a permanent change, this has just done it for ebay, they've ruined it

"to prevent fake offers being made to bidders"
More like to prevent fair competition!

"Bidder 1 Cancelled: £190.00
Explanation:no feedback Bid:28-Nov-06 18:07:32 GMT
Cancelled: 29-Nov-06 07:43:27 GMT
Bidder 3 New eBay Member (less than 30 days) Cancelled: £220.00
Explanation:no feedback Bid:29-Nov-06 08:28:32 GMT
Cancelled: 29-Nov-06 09:08:18 GMT"

is no way to run an auction site.
brand new bidders totally anonymous withdrawing huge bids on auctions without explanation...
Way to go ebay.

Its because there loosing alot of business out of ebay,
People are looking at the second name of the highest bid and offering to sell them the same product out of Ebay.

I dont like Ebay much, if i do bid on EBay its within my radious and i can collect.
#3
I dont like this either, its not all anoymous though, i was looking through last night and could see the high bidders, god knows how its actually working out :geek:
#4
Is it not a an option you choose when selling an item??

The auctions that you see on ebay now that aren't anonymous are several days old and were begun before this change of system happened a few days ago, any new auctions now follow this change

:geek: I guess i dont really have a problem with it i guess, but it makes things easier for shill bidders :-(

There is an auction on ebay right now for something that i really want, an expensive item (£120) and    a bidder has just come along an bid the price up to £175 and let's have a look at him shall we....

Excuse me, i said it makes things easier for shill bidders which i hate! Hence the sad face.
This will make me also look elsewhere than ebay now, there is nothing we can do about shill bidders now with this is place, some people will be so pleased as ebay wont look into anything themselves :-(

It's on items that bid over £100 last time I read about it.

EDIT:
Yeah, here:
http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200611.shtml

eBay

We’re implementing this new system on listings with a high bid of £100 or greater, which is where we believe it can have the greatest positive impact. The bid information for listings where the bid is lower than £100 will display as it does today. Here’s what will change for listings with a high bid of £100 or more:

On the bid history page for each listing we’ll replace member User IDs with aliases (such as Bidder 1, Bidder 2 and Bidder 3) in the order of their bids placed. For each bidder involved in a listing, we’ll display the number of bids in unique categories that they’ve placed, a range that their feedback score falls within (i.e. 10-49, for instance), their percentage of positive feedback, their length of time as an eBay member, and the number of bids they’ve placed on the item. At the end of a listing, the winning bidder’s User ID will be displayed on the item page. Please note: Sellers will still be able to access bidder information on their listings through the Bid History page and the My eBay selling table.

In My eBay, members will no longer have access to the high-bidder column from bid and watch tables.

On the item page, you’ll only be able to see the high-bidder ID if you are the signed-in seller of the item or the signed-in high bidder.

Through the Advanced Search by Bidder link, we’ll only show completed listings within the last 30 days.
It's been this way for 10 years, and now they change

This is not for our benefit, it's to stop people going around ebay and sending offers to people who have been bidding on something, thereby completely stopping any third party trading, so ebay can make even more profits through auction fees, it's corporate selfishness, they get to end all profitless trading and we have to take on higher risks

What on Earth are you on about? Why would Ebay be doing things for 'your' benefit? They're a business not a charity.

You're welcome to take your business elsewhere, I'm sure Ebay will cry over the loss.

Why would ebay be doing things for our benefit?

I didn't say they would, but they shouldn't be doing things not in our benefit either

I'm sure ebay will cry over the loss when thousands of likeminded disillusioned ebayers take their business away, and their profits take a dive, which leads to their stock price taking a dive, which leads to lower analyst estimates, which leads to people saying "ebay bust"

Dotcoms arn't immortal, and for the love of god will you stop being such an argumentative brat, you're always picking an argument with people on here Artemis, you're the devil's advocate

I don't pick arguments, I just don't suffer fools gladly.

Ebay is a 'business' and clearly far more successful than you. I'm gonna assume they just might have thought about the few dozen whiners like yourself who will pretend to go elsewhere but slink back when they realise there isn't an elsewhere to go to.

The amount of money they stop losing to people who are abusing the current system and offering off-Ebay deals will dwarf the 12p they lost from you and the thousands of invisible 'likeminded disillusioned ebayers'.

OK Marquez, you croseed the line from civilized conversation into rudeness there. I have removed your post.

That's just uncalled for.. We're all adults here, we can agree to disagree.. Not everyone has to agree with everyone else..Being sheep would be boring.

Some men prefer sheep to people if you get what i mean :giggle:

There is no clear line I can draw between rude and not rude Marquez, but when you start name calling, your posts will be removed. As you may or may not know, but we try to censor out members as litle as possible here on HotUKDeals.

Well... they are certainly cheaper :P

Wonder if selling a sheep on ebay would need the new system?

Theyll certainly have to be annoymous bidders, noone would own up to it :giggle:
#18
Hmm... that's true... but would I be allowed to post the sheeps name? or would someone to try to sell the sheep a time share?
[admin]#19
Keep it civil guys. As Emmajk42 said we censor posts as little as possible but if a posting is offensive we will remove it. There's plenty of room for debate and disagreement without resorting to personal digs and invective.

As well as Ebay why is there not another compnay like Ebay that sell things online with bidding.

Like "Bidline" << i made that up lol
#22
there is its called QXL

http://www.qxl.com/

Ebid and many others also. None of them hold a candle to Ebay.

It just bugs me how many people seem to think Ebay owe them something, like it's a public service. It's a privately run business, if they want to charge extra unless you send them a photo of yourself naked then they can. People don't like it then they can try to sell their old crap some other way. See if you get 5 million visits an hour at a local jumble sale.
#24
is that what it is 5 million an hour B***** H***

hmmm i think i have found a slight loop hole in the ebay annoymous bidding thing because if you go on ebay on your mobile, the items which are going for over £100 still have the highest bidder's id on it.
