10% of the final selling price (up to a maximum of £40)
#2
Insertion fees are not much £1.30 at the most. if you sell via paypal, they too will take fees of 3.4% +20p (paypal fee is based on total money transfer ie. including any p&p charge)

The rates below are what you pay Ebay if you use buy it now.

I'd be very careful listing that sort of thing on Ebay, will you get lots of people attempting to buy it from Nigeria etc who want to scam you.

Technology-related
£0.99 - £29.99
5.25% of the final selling price up to £29

£30 - £99.99
£1.57 + 3% of the final selling price of £30 or more

£100 - £199.99
£3.67 + 2.5% of the final selling price of £100 or more

£200 - £299.99
£6.17 + 2% of the final selling price of £200 or more

£300 - £599.99
£8.17 + 1.5% of the final selling price of £300 or more

£600 or more
£12.67 + 1% of the final selling price of £600 or more

Mobile phones with contracts
£0.99 or more
No fee

If you put a picture of the iphone on your for sale thread, Sigma might unlock it.

£400 buy it now would leave you with £375 after fees (assuming you charge the actual amount for postage on top).

Just set your selling preferences correctly and only ship to the UK and this isnt an issue. Take lots of photos inc the IMEI on the phone & box before sending as your proof of what was sold.

Of course it's an issue, especially to someone who isn't used to selling on Ebay, there are ways around the block AND newbies get caught up when a scammer bids it up high and get tempted to post it overseas, they don't realise the problems.

Granted, the OP may be au fait with Ebay and scams, but forewarned is forearmed.

If you follow the rules, selling high end phones is FINE on ebay. Seriously. Set strict selling preferences (not just location - only allow bidders with a credit card registered via paypal), only send to a UK address and always send via an approved method such as RMSD so you have proof of delivery. Take lots of photos to cover yourself in the case of a SNAD claim being raised.

No need for scaremongering IMO. You have more chance of being scammed on this forum than on ebay.

How is it scaremongering if a user isn't familiar with scammers oO

Fleabay is an absolute rip off, You do all the work.. They take all the money.. Sell it on here

How do they rip you off, The fee's aren't hidden and they are far cheaper than a real auction
And they do all the work not you, Try making a webpage with your item for sale on it and see how many hits you get
Sell on here and you usually get a lower price even after ebay fee's
#14
the more info to the seller the better.. its not scaremongering.. its information
#15
You have your view of which I respect... but I also have mine.

Exactly, until i said be careful selling on Ebay, nobody had mentioned the many pitfalls that can arise selling on there, especially if you're not a regular seller.

I'm only looking out for people, wanting to make them aware, that's all.

I've been scammed on Fleabay and I'm nobodys fool... It's best to be careful. Well done Debz for highlighting some pitfalls that can happen.

but how do they rip you off?
if you get more money even after fees then surely you are better off listing there however much they charge?

But how are those pitfalls ANY different than selling anywhere else?

Taking precautions is fine, but IMO is basic common sense and doesn't need pointing out. Scammers are not exclusive to ebay and in fact it is harder to successfully scam someone on ebay now than it has ever been. Which is why scammers target gumtree more now.

OP - just crack on and sell via ebay mate. Only post to the UK via RMSD, get photos, and you will be fine. I've sold MANY phones, including iPhones, via ebay and never had a single issue.

Never assume everyone has the same level of common sense! They don't, no harm in extra info, those that know can ignore and those that don't learn something helpful :)

She only pointed out one thing and said be careful, you've stated more in post 11 and this one than she has in her original post (which to me is 'common sense'.. ie, taking pictures is pretty obvious!).
And you've just said it yourself, its harder.. Not impossible. If I were new to Ebay Id be grateful for the knowledge, however big or small. Shes just pointed out something that people might get caught out with and the OP obv isn't that familar with Ebay or else he/she would probably be aware of the fees for starters, or at least know where to look to find them out instead of asking here. :)

Sell it locally, its an item in demand and will sell withing mins of an ad being placed in local free ads paper/website, cash in your hand and job done
This is why i go against ebay, 90% (random number made up but probably true) of the stuff there could be sold just as easily from your door step

Not exactly unwarranted, you were asked to supply pictures of the phone, together with your username and date, as per the rules. If you've chosen not to do that then what do you expect to happen?

In other words, supply some pictures as asked and stopy crying about how unjustified everything is...

Ebays fees are scandalous in my opinoin not sure at all how many people can make a living selling stuff on there. Ebid.co.uk fees are much more reasonable just a shame more people don't use it
