eBay Dispute

I won an item on eBay which never turned up. After several unsuccessful attempts to resolve with the seller (a dropshipper I think) I opened a dispute requesting a refund. Initially the seller had 10 days to respond.

Dispute opened 1st June.

On 4th June, the seller replied stating:

Seller's message:
"i just wanted to do the refund, but paypal said the money was held, did you file a dispute there?"

I replied the same day confirming the dispute and my request for refund.

Since then the dispute had sat on OPEN. Today, 10th June, 10 days have passed since opening it and I thought at this point eBay make a decision. But nothing has happened.

There is no option to escalate to eBay - just to reply to the seller again (no point as I was the last one to reply) or close the dispute (deffo don't want to do this).

Can anyone give any advice what happens here?

Thanks.

Nothing will get done until AFTER the 10th day. It is 10 FULL days from the date you open the claim

I think they have made it more complicated to finalise the dispute whereas before it used to automatically close in your favour if the seller did not reply.

I've just had one where the seller did not reply and it just sat at open.

In the dispute page there is a contact ebay button if I remember rightly, just contact them and it will close in your favour pretty quickly.

the seller has responded in the given time, why cant you esculate, not sure how ebay works

There is no option to escalate or contact eBay.

It was opened at 6pm on the 1st, so I think homerian is right - I will need to wait until 6pm tomorrow?

What is the difference between opening an eBay dispute and a Paypal dispute? Is it worth doing both?

You can't do both paypal one will get closed if you do.
Click on the contact us button at top right of screen, you have to type in what your subject is and then you can chat to someone online.

as far as i am aware, they do not interfere till it has been esculated, until then it is between seller and buyer, unless that has changed

So ..

If a seller doesn't respond at all = eBay automatically close after 10 days and award to buyer.
If seller responds = left to the two parties unless the buyer escalates

Does that sound right? The seller has updated it again this morning stating:

Seller's message:
"you open an dispute on paypal, so we cannot do the refund, thanks."

He's starting to p1ss me off now. I have ONLY opened a eBay dispute, which I believe puts a hold on the funds in his Paypal account? I'm sure he only has to accept the refund via the dispute on eBay (He's already agreed to a refund in principle - just won't actually do it!).

^^ as I said earlier I am sure it does not close automatically now (like I am sure it used to) you still have to contact them to close it.

Pain in the arse ... there's no way to escalate this to them. On the dispute I can only reply to the seller. If I click "Contact Us" and enter a relevant question it takes me in loops through various FAQs but no way to email or chat live with someone at eBay. I guess I will have to pick up the phone.

I know it doesn't help but i was in exactly the same position and there was definitely a contact us or escalate this button somewhere on the dispute page as this is how I closed my dispute.

As I cannot get to a dispute page I can't help you to find it.

10 full days have passed and no change on the dispute page. No escalate or contact eBay links - just "send seller another message" whilst it sits on awaiting seller reply. Went through the main "Contact Us" link at the top, through the FAQ, entered the item # and eventually got an "Email Us" link and have been able to email eBay support. What a faff!

Lets hope they actually reply.
