Why do people feel the need to give low DSRs for no reason!!

I am always very truthful or generous when leaving detailed seller ratings for people! However I have just gone to check mine, as I do from time to time, and have 2 low DSRs for P&P charges and dispatch time.

I always post the same or next working day as payment received. If someone pays before about 4pm I post same day, I also post on Saturdays if payment received before my PO shuts. So in 99% of cases the buyer receives item next day.

As for p&p charges, the most I charge over the cost rate is about 50p, and I don't do that very often it's usually about 15-20p, or very near to cost on the heavier items. I also in a lot of cases refund any excess postage charge if when packaged up the item costs less to post than estimated! Why do people not realise that you have to buy packaging materials, and that p&p means postage AND PACKING?

I had one lady who bought a book for 10p I charged p&p of £2.65. It cost £2.24 to post so maybe slightly excessive but all told after fees, packaging materials etc the end value was about 8p. The lady had a whinge in feedback (although she did leave positive), so I replied politely telling her that after everything I received about 8p. Apparently that was cheating in her eyes and that I should reply on p&p to make a profit!! Profit.... of 8p, come on!!!! I obviously should charge base rate, and then make a loss after fees etc!

Anyway just wanted a rant, have vented now

Well that paying too much fightens me a bit. I have sold stuff for really really cheap, that is fab quality. Then you put a load of old tat on and they go really dear. In a couple of circumstances I have actually refunded some money before posting. I did this yesterday actually. Sold a hooded bacth towel ponch thing. Listed it for 10p because it's not great quality. It ended up selling for £2, then the postage was £2. I sent them an email saying it was not worth £4 and refunded them £1.50, to save my feedback lol!

They need a DSR system where the buyers have to give reasons for low scores

Don't get me started on some buyers and DSR's i have the same problem.I despatch items same or next day depending on when they pay and email to let them know it's been despatched and then get marked down on despatch and comms, arghhhh

In your examples,if some stuff is only worth 50p or whatever i'd rather send stuff to the charity shop than waste my time writing a listing and taking pics and queuing in the PO,some things are not worth the hassle.

I think you may well be right!

On the bright side..........don't worry as no-one pays any attention to them. Someone could have 10 negs for non delivery as their most recent feedback and people bid. lol

Was about to say the same. Seen people with loads of negs and still gat bids. Persaonally i just look at their % score, don't even look at their DSR's

I've also refunded 3 people money when i've got the postage wrong,or done combined postage when they haven't asked and not one person has even said thank you,the most recent was about two weeks ago so i said to my boyfriend i'm not doing it again and i don't care if i get marked down for it.

I've told my boyfriend to remind me not to do it next time i'm feeling generous and to remind me that people never even acknowledge it never mind say thanks!

I know the feeling - it's just if you're a business it has a negative impact for you :(

Just to add - I have 2 low ratings in the last 12 months even though I post every day - sometimes you're penalised on how long Royal Mail take to deliver!

I've always given a refund of partial p+p if i've over estimated by say 50p or more, many of my items are heavy. But since the change in the ebay feedback/DSR system I'm having more non-payers. The buyer is King? My rant is, as a seller, I'm unable to leave negative feedback to warn other potential sellers, after a claiming my fees back,. Rant over.

I keep off fleabay now as people seem to expect the earth.

I was selling 5 boxes of rubber floor tiles (very heavy) and went to great lengths to explain that there were high delivery charges because the courier used a 'pallet rate'.

Some guy then demanded a quantity discount because he had 'ordered a pallet load' !!

Sheeesh !

I'm glad it's not just me. I put this thread on, and expected the usual negative comments you get with ebay threads, but I am obviously right in this situation (for a change).

I know that people don't really pay attention to DSRs, but it just annoys me how people can be so petty!

Since ebay took away the right for sellers to leave neg for buyers it has pretty much gone to sh1t for sellers!

to get round overcharging postage if you do 1st class or parcel post do it online and then tick the box so it doesnt display the postage? that way buyers dont know what you've paid ;)
i dont mean to get extra funds from them but to stop getting unfair dsrs?

I have always done this anyway, but now, I am thinking it may be of more value to show the buyer how much I am paying for it

i keep getting emails from Ebay about my seller rating - telling me that people who buy on ebay want free postage - like a lot of people on that site i start my listings at 99p and the majority sell for that price whether it's something cheap or not! they then want me to post it free?? come on! you want free postage shop at Amazon or Play.com - i have to go out of my way to a post office as the local one was closed down so now a 5 minute drive. i don't over charge, maybe i get between 20 - 50p depending on the item and charges, not alot considering the items mainly sell at a lot less than what i paid for them...
i have pretty much stopped selling stuff on there now - maybe 2 items in 12 months...

off the soap box and rant is over thanks :)

I would be quite willing to provide free postage, IF ebay allowed free listings on higher value items, say starting at up to £4.99, but ebay just want to rip you off left, right and centre. You have to pay them to start an item above 99p, then 10% of the end value, then a nice slice to paypal too (who I believe are owned by ebay/same group who own ebay), its robbery. I know there are other places to sell, like priceminister, bigwardrobe etc, but because they are not as high profile, you have a far smaller chance of selling on there!

I do not sell on there as a business, I just flog stuff that me and family no longer need, I very rarely 'make' money on anything, but it's nice to get a little bit of cash back on stuff that would go in the bin/recycling, and I use it to fund other stuff like xmas pressies and that, it helps to lighten the load a bit. I have just finished selling about 40 items, and all in all have cleared about £25, so not massive money making, but it all helps, (and it would be a shedload more if ebay doing their DIck Turpin bit)!

I think I could live with whims and rules of ebay without complaining too much, if it wasn't as silkymolo says, the sting in the tail, i.e. the Paypal fee!!!!!!!!

There's a feature within Paypal called micropayments...instead of 3.4% + 20p it's 5% + 5p...great if you take lots of small payments :)

Only works out cheaper if the sale price is about a fiver though.
