Let's hope this one doesn't turn into a fight hehe

eBay is now using the brand spanking new feedback system, where rather than just being able to give a rating of positive, neutral or negative you can rate several aspects of the transaction also!

I am get to give or receive any feedback on it, but am interested to hear people's thoughts on it!

I've used it. It's no big deal in my opinion. Feedback does not mean as much now as it did a few years ago and IMHO, it's hardly used when people are buying or selling.

Just used it tonight.
Very easy to use and the star system works great.

have they stopped the seller withholding feedback until the buyer leaves it first yet?

I don't see that much of a problem with this. I like to know that the buyer is happy with it before leaving feedback. Only then is our transaction complete.

I agree with ducky.

Otherwise people tend to just leave feedback without contacting you.

Also feedback is for after the transaction is complete.

really? cos i find that the seller withholds feedback inorder to make you leave them positive. cos you just know that if you leave negative for crappy goods they will take revenge no matter how quick you payed them. no, imo once you have payed they should have to leave you feedback within 24 hours or something.

dunno - I fully agree with you, that's the biggest complaint I have with the feedback system. It means that a buyer is much more wary to leave negative feedback because the seller can do so in return even though it wasn't deserved. If the seller has received my payment then I think they should leave feedback then as the buyer has done their part.

What if the buyer then gets the item, leaves negative and then opens a paypal dispute?

Agreed. And people get very angry if you ask them to leave feedback once you've paid LOL

Are any of you guys sellers? I'd be surprised if you say yes...

eBay is soooooooo bias in favour of buyers, this would just make it a 1000 times easier for the 'bad' buyers to scam sellers. If it was ever made so the seller had to leave feedback first, I'd simply stop using the feedback system.

Being a buyer & seller, when selling I always leave feedback after I have received f/b from them as its a kind of receipt to say they have received the goods and are happy with their purchase.

When buying, I will leave feedback once item received & Im happy with it.

Ditto. I even include a little handwritten note when I sell things that says 'Thank you, once the item has arrived please leave me feedback and I will do the same for you.'

well i personally feel that its a way of the seller forcing your hand, recently i brought something that didnt turn up for 2 weeks (seller didnt post, rather than royal mail being at fault) so i thought he deserves neg feedback cos he was suppose to post next day recorded delivery. anyway he hadnt already left me feedback, so i ended up leaving him positive feedback because i didnt want to lose my 100% thru no fault of my own. how is this fair? its kinda like blackmail.

Oh I understand that, been there myself...I think the whole feedback system on eBay is a bit...blah...it's especially hard on the newer members where a negative would have a much greater effect on the overall percentage.

But rather than forceing the seller to leave feedback first (thus opening them up to all kinda of new scams) I think people should be...taught...that having 100% feedback isn't the ultimate thing to have, the feedback system is meant to let other members know how a transaction went, it's never nice to receive a retaliatory negative, but if your original negative is truthful then it's worth it...and I am sure people are smart enough, if they even bother to dig that deeply, to work out who is in the right and who is in the wrong. But I'd say most people don't even notice someones feedback score as long as it's over, say, 90%...that's around the point I'd care enough to look at their feedback, see how many negative they have and what they say etc and 9 times out of 10 I'd still buy from them.

Going off on one a bit here aren't I? My overall point being, I agree that some sellers use feedback as a sort of 'threat' but I don't think making all sellers leave feedback first is the answer...I think it'd make matters even worse.

I'm a buyer and a seller, I leave feedback for buyers when they've paid and I have the money - why should a buyer leave feedback first when they have completed their side of the transaction first?

If a seller doesn't leave me feedback first, I usually don't leave them feedback on principle.

One big improvement of the new system is that you can see the item title without opening the item - under the old system it was a pain in the neck as you had to open each item in the feedback to find what they had been selling.

We always leave feedback as soon as the buyer had paid but we have no reasons for buyers to leave neg, we always send same or next day and all items are checked before we send them, not had a neg yet

I am both a seller and a buyer, and as a seller I always leave rep after I've received payment. As far as I'm concerned, that half of the transaction is complete (i.e. the part that is reflected by the feedback that I am about to award) so no need to wait for anything else before giving the feedback.

I'm a seller and i'd only leave feedback for people who have left it for me, as i state in my auctions that i always leave positive feedback for people who leave it for me.

I do this because if there is any problem with the product or service, i will always try to resolve the situation before feedback is unfairly left, as you can't always control courier speeds or the product sometimes getting damaged in transit but if they email you about the problem, as long as you're a good seller, you can technically resolve any situation.

Using this method generally avoids minor problems and most people can be understanding and are happy once they've genuinely seen you've gone out of your way to resolve any problems. :)

i get annoyed when people dont leave me feedback, sometimes it takes them 2 months and sometimes they just dont bother - but i neevr pester them.

as for me wether its buying or selling, i leave feedback usually once per fortnight, do it all in one go.
