Haven't listed anything for sale on Ebay for a while, so was stunned at how much they now charge in fees. One item I listed as a Buy Now for £94.99. Listing fee was £0.40, Final fee will be £9.30, and then theres a further £3.80 for PayPal fees + 17.5% VAT on the lot. That works out to nearly 17% of the total price - much more expensive than selling through a proper auction house for gods sake. Ebay used to be fun & reasonably cheap to sell items on, but now they've just become plain greedy. Anyone else feel the same??

I KNOW.. its daylight robbery.. thats why i only buy on there now and dont sell.. they are too big for their boots and need bringing down a peg or two.. vote with your feet thats what i say... maybe a good idea to start selling stuff on here??
#2
dont list it as buy it now, run a standard auction it will be cheaper overall
#3
I agree, I hadnt used it for a while and just used it to sell a phone and got stung with all the fees. Wont be using it again for a while.

Yeah, I thought about an auction, but problem is the risk that you end up losing money. Putting a reserve on just raises costs again, and tends to put people off for some reason.

I give them 4000 a month in fees, ridiculous
#6
You get what you pay for, few other places can offer what ebay does
#7
Yip, totally agree with you there! feel like i'm being robbed. They dont make their fees clear enough - the first time i sold something on there i thought all i had to pay was the listing fee and whatever paypal charges - then i was hit with another bill for ebay fees. It is really getting ridiculous - they should at least cut out listing fees. They have even done away with the free re-listing if your item doesnt sell the first time. far better off using local classifieds or having a car boot sale - no wonder the whole world is skint lol

I stay clear of ebay all together now, costs so much to sell on there and the last few things I've bought off there have been tatt! Ebay has gone so down hill

i love the description of how to work out the fees on a 'technology' listing which goes for OVER £600...

5.25% of the initial £29.99 (£1.57) + 3% of the initial £30.00 - £99.99 (£2.10) + 2.5% of the initial £100.00 - £199.99 (£2.50) + 2% of the initial £200.00 - £299.99 (£2.00) + 1.5% of the initial £300.00 - £599.99 (£4.50) + 1% of the remaining balance of the final selling price

...huh? surely "£12.67 + 1% of the value over £600" makes more sense?

fvf fees are the same either way mate better to use bin than risk going for low price

you dont save that much on the initial, listing anyways

Why? Explain yourself, young man :-D

What gets me is that if you go through topcashback to buy off ebay at the mo you get 60% of the sellers fees back. If ebay are happy to lose this amount of their profits, why not make the sellers fees cheaper in the first place and offer less or no cashback, people tend to buy on ebay whether or not they get cashback.
