I've just noticed the same. Ebay say it's because play.com etc offer free delivery and ebay are losing out because of this. So now we the seller lose out instead.

another reason why i dont bother using ebay anymore for selling its carp, only use to buy nowdays

i save all my stuff up and do bootfairs instead
#3
yeah but if you notice the buying prices have gone up to reflect postage costs anyway although granted not enough t warrent taking p&p cost of us

Ebay were limiting postage depending on the category it was in (games were £3.00) which was a good idea, but now you can't charge anything.

Plus sellers used to avoid fees by lising the game 99p and £14.99 postage, it's a combination of greedy sellers, greedy ebay plus ebay wanting to become more of a online mall rather than an online carboot.
So dumping the people who made it what it was..................

Sellers in the game category had a maxium postage charge and couldn't put postage prices higher then £3.00, Just read that they are going to do this on other categories like mobile phone now as well :?

I think Ebay is getting better and better,Unless of course you are into screwing people over in which case it is getting worse,

yeah caused by rip off postage fees from sellers i used to charge 1.20 which was postage and padded envelope cost didnt make anything on postage

Time to go back to the free ads:whistling:

It's not just computer games catergory now but others too which you have to offer free P&P. Shame for someone who going get 99p for an item and it's going cost a few quid to post,it's just not worth doing.

LOL ebay make me laugh day by day

Hope they rot in hell

I sold a phone recently and you can only put £7 as maximum postage cost. It actually cost me £8.60 recorded when i suppose to send it special delivery.

Nope. It's just ebay getting greedier and greedier.

They can't take a cut of postage and packing costs. Not sure wy but maybe it's a legal thing.
So they have started making people post for "free" so that people incluse the P&P price in the price of the item, which they can now take a cut of!

It stops people selling scratched DVDs for 99p plus £3 postage and then saying i will refund your 99p and keep the £3, It makes people think twice before they list rubbish,Things still sell for exactly what people are willing to pay so if you pay a total of £3.99p now if it turns out to be damaged you get your £3.99p back,

I see your point and yes it stops people selling crap to a degree as they have to fork out to post it and pay fees, instead of blagging it. However in the event of a dispute you would of got the WHOLE purchase price including p&p back anyway, it's been that way for some time:)

Yes but not too many people know that and just take the sellers word and return the item,

the 10% fee is outragous anyway. Should ask ebay will they be paying for postage price if the seller isnt? as it is clearly not free from the post office

Just put the starting price up to what you would be happy to receive to cover all charges, tho this may put of early bidders. Or start it off at 1p and get friends to bid it up for you. Items always look more desireable if they've got a few bids.

I don't use ebay half as much as I used to either thanks to all their carp changes

Thats not the pont though is it, if some thing ends at £10 it still ends at £10, the extra £1 or so you started the auction at doesnt matter one little jot.
Ebay are a rip off.

I meant start it at e.g. a tenner, that way you will get £10 (if it sells).
Or as I said, start it low and get mates to bid it up to the level you're happy to sell at

I agree there are several factors here.
I still use eBay a lot to buy and sell, But i agree that it is just in the main part eBay getting greedier.

DVDs and the like i imagine would make up a huge quantity of sales. so enforcing free postage means they take a pretty big wadge on that extra postage money.

10% fees + the mandatory offering off Paypal with its fees?
It's getting ridiculous but at the end of the day they can get away with it.
