eBay has been HACKED!!!

I don't know how many of you guys are eBayers, just for those who regularly trade on eBay.

eBay has been HACKED. I just read an article on eBay chatter page tonight, and one of eBay staff indeed admitted that.

...

"Very early this morning, a malicious fraudster posted on the Trust & Safety forum on eBay.com posing as approximately 1,200 eBay users. The fraudster made these posts in a way that was intended to appear as though he logged in with their accounts. The posts contained name and contact information, which appears to be valid, and could have been secured as part of an account take over."

It really scares out of **** me. Am I one of those 1,200 hacked users???

In my opinion, we all have to do something first for our own safety.

Still waiting for eBay reaction though!!!

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/25/ebay_account_details_published/

With 204 million registered users, the 1,200 accounts represents an tiny fraction of the eBay population. Even still, the incident underscores the volume of information related to eBay users that's available to malicious hackers and the ease with which they are able to get it and publish it.

Considering how many users there are there's only a small chance it's you, but, if anyone managed to wget the forum before ebay pulled down the info, abuse on those 1200 could become rife.

Not even a dent on confidence on eBay:

Wow thats scary, how did they gain access to accounts then?

Thank goodness the hacker/s shared the info, if he/she was a malicious hacker it could've been a lot worse!, they've highlighted a security breach which is only a good thing.

Got an email earlier saying paypal was suspended following attempts in Romania. Be warned of this scam too.

Remember they say Dear YOURNAME and not Dear Member

Some are suggesting due to the comparatively small number, this is the result of a phishing scam which is being blown up to look like more. If ebay security had been compromised, they would have access to far more than just 1200 accounts.

1200 accounts is a lot, think of the damage/cons they could do?

How many active accounts are there on ebay

1200 is a very small percentage of the total ebay system - if someone had breached ebay security they would have access to millions of accounts.

Scammers have hacked accounts available all the time. I've had things bought several times with hacked accounts and I'm only one small seller on ebay, imagine how many people have scams tried on them from hacked accounts. I could imagine that there are over 1000 hacked accounts in use at any one time anyway.
