Let's split it into cases:
1) If you cancel your listing - yes, you will be chargered the fees
2) If your item doesn't reach the reserve price - yes, you will be charged the fees, but if you relist it and then it sells, then you will not be charged the listing fees for the relist
3) if you edit the listing - yes, you will be charged for the extras - e.g. if you add another picture, you will be charged another £0.12

Hope this answers your question.

this is my first time selling on ebay, i normally sell on amazon.co.uk, the ebay rules are really bad, if the item is not sold you have to pay, that is very wrong ahh well what can we do, on amazon much more flexiable rules, anyways im sticking to amazon.
thanks kemot1984 you can have a rep.

sarbjeet_ can i ask what is so great about amazons marketplace?

their 17.5% fee seems almost extortionate...?

but if you add paypal and ebay fees it comes to more or less a similar amount, combined with the fact that people generally tend to trust amazon sellers more (i know i do, i think its just a psychological thing with amazon being a trusted brand and you know exactly what you're getting....)

yes and also there customer support is very good, you have to be a approved seller to sell everthing such as mobile phones and high priced items, and alos one very important rule you dont have to pay listing fees if your item is not sold.

no way, for £100 item sold on ebay
insertion fees £2.00
selling fees: 5.25% of the initial £29.99 (£1.57), plus 3.25% of the remaining closing value balance £2.27
total £5.85
amazon £17.5

I;ve only used amazon market place once a while back and i was stung for £6 delivery which i NEVER SAW upon ordering.

Put me off the marketplace entirely that did.

i tend to agree with matar, im an occasional seller on ebay, mostly on 10p days

I host my own photos etc on the listings.
10p insertion
FVF on £40 item: £2.22
Payment via cheque/bank only
postage is seperate for all my items

£2.32 of £40 = 5.8% on a 10p listing for a £40 item....

Just to clarify, you only have to pay to edit if you are changeing something to something you'd be charged for originally, so like said...if you are added an extra picture that's another 12p, but if you are simply editing the description or title a little that costs nothing.

yeh but the bad thing is if you dont sell you still have to pay,
#11
Yeah, only the listing fee though...and if you relist the item and it sells you get it back. Plus 99% of things do sell if you are realistic with the starting price/reserve.
#12
does the insertion fee vary as i was charged £2 for a samung d600??
#13
Yes, the higher you make your starting price the higher the insertion fee...you also pay extra for things like gallery image, extra pictures, subtitles etc

You can see the basic fees here:

I think you have me mistaken with someone else, either you are just assuming it was me or someone wrote my name somewhere to try cause trouble, I assure you I left no reputation...ask a moderator or admin (I think they can see who left the reputations) to confirm if you must.
