Hi,
I recently sold some golf trousers on ebay, item was paid for and i described the item as used, but in good condition (they had very very slight dirt speckles around the ankles). The buyer asked for a refund and i said yes, however i originally said i would not refund postage, then i said that i would refund the postage but not on his side.
I now have an "open case" in my ebay and now don't know what to do....
Help please.

why didn't you wash them before you posted them?
surely that's the done thing when you sell clothes on ebay? i wouldn't be happy recieving "dirt speckled" clothes!

they were washed, it was dirt speckled stains, but hardly noticable, and i stated to him that if they didnt have these then i would have described them as excellent.

go into the case and do what is required

Surely it's in the hands of the buyer. They are likely to win the case. All they have to do is return them and your liability is to refund the initial cost only.

However rather than go through all that hassle, attempt to give them a little discount, this should suffice, unless you think the buyer is a chancer. In which case, be stubborn and let them return at their own cost.

So why are you refunding them if you described that they were a little dirty?

Having read both listings on ebay, you failed to disclose the marks, hence the claim. Your pics are folded and didn't present a true reflection of your listing either.

Take the advice above re discount or refund the buyer (consider a discount that does not exceed the postage to return).

I "offered" an alternative refund in the paypal dispute, and then it automatically took the money out of my account when it never stated it would do it! And i haven't even got my trousers back yet!!!

I offered a full refund of £19.07 which was the cost of item and the P+P charged, but i will not pay out for the postage on his side as i will lose out on ebay fees. But thanks to paypal i now have £19.07 less in my account and no trousers!

Isn't that thanks to you, not paypal ?

Only refund upon receipt. your decision (and unwise).

if you didnt list the faults then you really have some nerve expecting the buyer to foot any costs

it said offer, not credit, i was expecting a reply, not for them to take it out of my account. Rang up the paypal customer service and they were a load of sh*t!

If I was buying 2nd hand clothing I would never expect it to be perfect! This is the reason I do not buy 2nd hand clothing!

Some people are so funny, and opinions on good/very good condition differ. If I was to buy something that stated excellent condition but had marks would be annoyed, very good would be a bit miffed but would ask for poss partial refund, good condition meh what do you expect.

I have sold baby stuff on ebay without any probs apart from a bundle of 14 used bibs which someone bout for about 20p and £2.00 postage. I stated 'decent' condition, not good, or very good, and got a very nasty email telling me they were not useful for anything but rags! (one of the bibs cost £5 on its own and was used twice, not a mark on it!) I ended up just refunding the buyer so save my 100% positive feedback, but please, who buys used bibs and expects them to be like brand new! (They were actually in ok-good condition barring 1 or 2 marks on 2 bibs because I barely used bibs with my LO)
