eBay help? scam or not?

I sold 3 items on ebay..

Offered 'instant' delivery by email (codes) also i'd send them recorded (so i'd have the proof of postage)

Anyway.

Someone's just bought all 3 totalling £102. They have 9 feedback, one only left in the last 90 days and it's a private auction.

Also in the bidder email ebay sends you the buyers name is different to the shippers name (both isp emails though, from same isp)

It was pay immediately by paypal so they have already paid.

Can anyone advise me what to do?

Wait for the money to go through before seding, tell them it's pending. Wont stop them trying to claim after though.

£109 for codes??

Is that more than they are worth?

If so... its a scam.. someone using a hacked account.

I would be wary with any type of 'instant delivery' as a seller as they are perfect for scammers, but with the buyer using an isp email address that would give me some comfort.
If paypal have said that it's ok to post to the address listed on the paypal invoice, send the codes via rerded delivery whereever paypal says.
Maybe suggest to the buyer that you email one of the xbox codes and the rest will be in the recorded posted letter.

I was thinking more telling them that it was on hold.
Then sending special delivery tomorrow.

Although I'm still wary that they'll reverseit.. I'm half tempted to just refund.

the buyers name will be different to the shippers name, you are the shipper, thay are the buyer or am I missing something. I would remove the funds from paypal before sending them anything.

I mean eg:

eBayer name: Joe bloggs
Paypal email shipping address: John doe (female though in this case).

won't i be in trouble if they reverse it?

the buyer cant reverse it, only paypal and if you have proof of postage I can't see that happening, unless your selling dodgy codes and then yes you would be in trouble as they can claim for not as described.
I mean proof of delivery, you have to proove they recieved it, not that you sent it.

On the paypal payment page, look at whether it has a green tick and 'ok to send' or something like that.
I would email both email addresses (ebay and paypal) and see if you get a reply from both, maybe explaining your hesitations about the two names, if they are legit I'm sure there will be a simple explanation.
I have purchased something for my father on eBay before using my account but using his paypal address as he doesn't have an eBay account so it could be that.

Phone them? See if they speak Engrish?

The name thing is no biggie especially if female, paypal make it near on impossible to change your surname when you marry.

I have faxed my cert of 100s of times and they still haven't changed it, so my ebay is in my name now, my pp is in my maiden name still, with all my cards/bank details registered correctly and 100% verified.

Tbh if the codes have gone well over the odds then it's a scam of sorts, don't know what the prices are.

Could be a payment waiting to bounce, which you are not covered for, plus with them being xbox technically you are not covered by seller protection if they do a reversal, as it's an intangaible service you are selling................................

It covers you for item not received yes as in physical goods, however what you have sold is not a physical good it's xbox points, it's a service, it's intangaible, digital content, it's technically not covered by seller protection where as the cards are, but not the service on them ifyswim.

It depends what side of bed your pp assesor gets out of tbh when they look at cases like that.

Not sell them.

I used the ebay chat and they said I should contact them, but if its a hijacked account cant they have just changed the details :S?

It is a lot on money to lose, I would refund them. But you have to think about getting your fees back from Ebay. May be you can delay it till after weekend. If it is a hacked account it should clear by then.
#18
eBay now advised to refund, so i did and they refunded my fees :) rep to all

That's a good result for you then, safer in the long run.

A good result for us also. You are not permitted to continue trading here with regards to any console related points, having been deemed to be trader like status.

Oh lawd, these things could be avoided if people asked Ebay queries on their forums, now the OP has dropped himself in it,

I sold Phone credit through email....never again!! Payment went through via Paypal so I thought I was safe....but within a day or so they'd taken the money back from my account as it looked like the guy had hacked someone elses account. Needless to say I lost out :x

Think someone keeps trying to hack into mine, because i keep getting emails apparantly from Paypal asking me to log into my account and asking all my details...think i have about £120 in there might transfer it to my bank account out of the way

Well what you want to do is just delete them mark them as phishing. Go into your paypal from the website, change your password anyway just incase and run a virus/spyware scan on your pc.

If you have bank accounts or cards link to your pp account more damage can be done than just emptying your pp account.

Idc anyway asb. I have receipts to prove I paid RRP which I could happily show you. But if you want to not ask for information like you do in every other thread then obviously I can't show it. And btw I can explain the reason I had them also.

And also. When I have sold points before I have obided all rules so idk where the trader like status comes from mrsarcasticbloke

Sorry, your response doesn't make too much sense, however I will clarify that we use information from here and elsewhere if made available by the OP. As such we used your ebay id and AVF data to assist us in making a decision, inlcuding past sales. I didn't need to ask any further questions, all the data I required to make a decision was publicly available.

It could have been worse, you listed on ebay prior to reporting on here, although the gap wasn't long it was still a breach, so perhaps consider yourself fortunate.

You may continue to trade, however not for console related points.

Regards
