Ebay/PayPal dispute advice needed

Morning all,

I recently sold a phone on Ebay, dispite advertising UK buyers only, the winning bidder was from Poland. Like an idiot I agreed to send the phone, they reduced the postage costs from £10 to £8 so I went to the post office and posted the phone. However the £8 they paid for postage was not enough to track the item. The buyer is now saying they did not receive the item and has opened a dispute on PayPal who have re debited the money from me while they investigate. I have a receipt for the postage but it dosent say what the item it, only the weight etc.

Any advise would be great.

Wont be using Ebay ever again!

Don't give up, I had a similar problem with Paypal. Tell paypal you have the receipt it was posted as agreed by the buyer. It sounds like they're trying it on. It may go on for a bit because for some reason buyers seem to get everything on ebay and paypal. It may be worth phoning paypal and checking what they are actually doing. Can I ask why you reduced the costs?

Also check with post office if you can claim £36 for the proof of posting, It takes about 6 weeks to get it back, but worth doing.

phone paypal and be firm - dont wait.

Let them know that you can provide receipt,
of course if you had a tracking number then there wouldn't be an issue. live and learn

I never post anything without it going recorded delivery, and regardless of what a buyer asks me I always send it recorded for my peace of mind. (also to check they arent pulling a fast 1)

I didnt, they did. I had it advertised as £10 recorded del in the UK. When they paid me via PayPal they reduced the payment by £2 and then emailed saying it is only £8 to post to Poland - so when I went to the PO I only posted as non recorded (which was £8.01) as I would have been out of pocket!

Treat everyone as a fraudster seems to be the best view!

i presume the p&p costs were for the UK not poland. If the buyer is/was genuine they'd expected to pay more as you hadnt stated how much to post outside the UK. We all live and learn.
If payapal dispute does go against you when you claim £36 from post office as thats all your covered for dont let on its ebay, as lots have never got their money when they say this. It may be worth your while posting this on ebay forum boards some really helpful experoence ppl there

The p&p is exactly that OP you allowed to charge for packaging and make a small charge for your time if you so wish i add approx 50p to £1 on to every single sale. As selling one item no matter how straight foward takes at least 30 mins by the time you list answer any queries , pacakage it and go to the P.O.

Make sure you explain to paypal that the uyer reduced costs even though your p&p was for poland at the end of the day they agree to £10 or more p&p when they bidded

Just phoned PayPal - they said I will not win, end of story! Cheeky g*ts!

Even though I have postage receipt, anything outside of the UK is not a confirmed address to the buyer is protected and will be refunded!

I sold a phone on ebay the other week and i had blocked outside bidders which i thought would make the sale go ok but the buyer is now claiming that the phone doesnt work when i know 100% that it does. Ive read loads about people sending back broken phones instead of the ones they were sent but i forgot to copy down the serial number so now im screwed. Totally annoyed as now ive lost my phone and my money

i would of sent the payment straight back if the buyer had altered the invoice without me agreeing! Does he think packing materials and petrol to the post office is free?

I agree, they have no right to edit the P&P after the auction without the sellers agreement. This should have been the second sign that something was sus'...after finding out he/she was on Poland and not the UK.
