I sent some boots to Portugal on 20/7/09 from an ebay sale. The buyer had emailed to say not received on Thursday, so told them about postal strikes, and also asked them to check their local post office as the box was pretty big.

Anyway rather than replying to me they have started a Paypal dispute yesterday and emailed me this time stating they were thought it was signed for when I had never said this! They had used a second ebay account to ask about postage, quoted a price and told them standard delivery! ( I know it was their second account as similar usernames and both live in same location)

I also sent a pair of shoes to someone in Leeds on 21/7/09, they only arrived this morning because of postal strikes! I have told the buyer about this, as yet no reply!

Is it just me or are some people too quick to jump to disputes? I have replied quickly to any emails she sent, offered advice an delay, asked her to check local post office, and also told her I will claim through post office as soon as correct amount of time elapsed if still not received, is that so unreasonable? Especially when she will not reply to my emails, I have had 3 off her in 3 days just saying where is my parcel!

Sorry rant over!!!!

I will only send to UK
I send recorded delivery signed for that stops any probs
Cos you have all the docs needed if they try to claim/scam you.
Paypal back you when you email copy of postage etc.

ebay is only good if your buying, no one is honest
#3
sounds to me like there using postal strikes to get these items free i had someone escalate a dispute 10 days after payment

theres lots of scammers out there sadly
I gave up posting abroad and will only send recorded del in the uk now

I know, now on all my listings have said will only send abroad if its signed for! I've been selling bits on ebay for over 8 years, never ever had a problem, but this last couple of batches I had 3 non-payers and now this. I have checked their feedback and all good on both user profiles, so it probably is quite honest, just annoyed that it has been escalated to a dispute so quickly even though I have been very responsive to the buyer.

I am however kicking myself for not sending international signed for as RM will only refund postage and no consequential loss, not a massive amount I will lose but I'm just a bit annoyed at the customer and myself. I sent items to Holland, Germany, Latvia, Estonia over the past couple of months with no probs!

Sorry to hear your probs, hope you sorted it out soon..

I, so far, have had no problem selling. The only two/three probs I ve got were sellers who did not honour the auction, (wouldnt send the item I won and pulled out of ebay).

i and quite a few others were scammed last yr by a woman in portugal becase we all sent items to her that were not signed for, she raised a dispute and claim almost immediately and paypal did refund her and charge all the sellers involved, we raised fraud cases with paypal but it didnt make a difference, i was just glad my sale was only for £20 whereas some of the other sellers were done over for hundreds, this could be the same woman who will now be trading under different ebay name as she was suspended,or it maybe just a known scam in portugal amongst other countries to prey on sellers who have not offered a signed for service, in future only offer international signed for or just sell to uk. sorry to hear about your issues but in my opinion you have been scammed.

It doesn't help that a lop of people advise buyers to start a Paypal claim BEFORE sorting things out with the seller first, members on this site do it frequently which baffles me as there's no rush when a buyer has 45 days to make a claim.

Is their English very good ?

Perhaps they don't understand your explanations about a postal strike etc

This is waht I was thinking, told them I knew about the 2nd account, "I don't know anything about this, Monica is a very common name in my country", just so happens both usernames are monica, both live in the exact same area of Portugal, both purchase the same size shoes and clothing, and both just happened to be interested in the same pair of boots I was selling on .co.uk, not .com.....hmmmm I would say the odds of that being 2 completely different people ain't far off a decent win on the lottery!!

Thanks everyone, I know we all know the hazards, but I think it takes something bad to start tightening up on how you sell on ebay, everyone learns from experience as they say!!
