Ebay petition email, anyone else had it?

Had a quick search and couldn't see anything on here.

" eBay was built on a simple idea - that we could empower people by building a global trading platform where practically anyone could buy or sell practically anything. But that idea is now under threat from certain brand owners and manufacturers who are trying to turn back the clock and block the sale of their products on online marketplaces and other websites across the EU.

Ultimately, what is at stake is the right of sellers to compete
fairly in the wider online marketplace, and the right of buyers
to be able to access the best possible deals from the widest
possible selection of goods.

Some of these brand owners argue that their objective is to prevent the sale of counterfeits on eBay.
But thanks to our work with 31,000 other rights owners, only 0.15% of listings last year were detected or
reported as potentially counterfeit. The real aim of these brands is to block the sale of all their products on our site - regardless of whether such items are new or second-hand, genuine or fake. It's not just luxury items that are affected, but also everyday items like children's toys, electronic equipment, lawnmowers and pushchairs. And if we want to prevent other brand owners from following suit, we need to act now.

We are therefore calling on European policymakers to amend EU competition law to stop these unfair
trade practices. But we need your help to persuade them to take action. If you would like to join our
campaign against online trade barriers, please sign our petition. "

and who will pay for little timmys wheelchair this christmas not the brand owners for sure

but seriously its not about buying things on ebay that are fake its about not being able to sell authentic items on there as the brand owners wont allow it and thats wrong cos when you have paid for it you should be able to sell it
#15
I'm not signing either, ebay have no respect for its sellers ,they ignore all the protests and now expect sellers to back them up.....don't think so
#16
Flock 'em ! (ebay)

Saw this and deleted it too. They're just trying to use us to protect their market share.

Got one too - if Ebay were serious about taking fakes seriously - then I would have considered signing but lets face it they don't give a fig about fakes and all they are worried about is their income from sales of branded goods.....
#18
Got this email too, deleted it, i wonder if anyone has actually bothered to respond to it!

Got it about 2 days ago. I find it funny that Ebay don't mind making money on fake goods or ticket touts, but now brand owners want to step it in they want you to sign a petition.

Needless to say it went straight into my trash can.

I loved this part tho - "But thanks to our work with 31,000 other rights owners, only 0.15% of listings last year were detected or reported as potentially counterfeit"

It's not our job to identify fake items and report them. You have a responsibility to brand owners to ensure listings are for genuine items. Save a few traders, Ebay's a joke.

I feel like emailing ebay with ..... "PLEASE SIGN MY PETITION AGAINST UNFAIRLY HIGH LISTING FEES ON AUCTION WEBSITES".....see if they care about US like they want us to care about THEM

 You think Ebay really care about your kids?? - all they care about is making money.
#22
yeah H8 Ebay. got a fake pair or jordans and the guy said 100% real. phoned ebay they said. ring paypal. rand paypal they said ccall ebay. they always want to push the blame FOOLS
#23
I did get some fake diesel jeans from ebat once (they were obviously fake as they were £25 buy it now) They were and still are great!

But ebay can bite me if they want me to sign any petition.
#24
deleted when they come back with fairer fees i may sign and go back not supporting their petition
#25
I agree eBay’s fees are completely ridiculous but they’ve got the whole nation, if not the world between a rock and a hard place. There is yet to be any other website where you can sell anything in bulk, quickly and efficiently (abet extortionate fees). Until there is they will continue to charge like this. I don’t mind supporting them in the petition, if it were difficult to sell real branded items it would make it a logistical nightmare. Yes they may not handle fakes in the best manner all of the time but as long as you use PayPal you will always get your money back

i had it too and was a bit ary so i deleted it, glad this thread came up as i thought it was spam too xxx

No it was kids cartoon dvds actually smartass

Things sell (if you no what you are doing) for alot more than what you can sell them for on here and in the case of ps3/xbox 360 games more than what you can trade them in for, and that includeds taking the fees into account.

Although, lately they have decided that you cant charge for postage on games any more!!!! whats that about? do they think postage is free now or something???
#29
Got it, read it and deleted it.

As per usual, eBay are just looking out for themselves (as they know that this will negatively affect their profits) but what gets me is that they are making out they're actually doing for our benefits. Like they care two hoots about us!!!!

Agreed. Still not signing it though as less sellers/items = quicker demise of ebay

The thing is, everybody moans about how high fees really hurt sellers. Who pays the fees? The BUYERS. That's where your fee money comes from. So all the time they're hurting me as a buyer by forcing sellers to raise prices then can go **** :)

true but i never put my prices up when fees go up and im the best seller on there :-D

i laugh when sellers moan about fees as most of them wouldnt be selling anything if they couldnt sell on ebay, if i couldnt sell on ebay at a push i might make £200 a week but with ebay earnings are endless in my opinion. even with super high fees people still make profit which they wouldnt be able to make otherwise

if a better site came along and was cheaper and everybody moved then yeah it would be great but it wont happen, mainly to the fact if ebay feels a threat in anyway they just buy the company
#37
Google needs to stop fannying around making operating systems and lauch an auction site, offer people some sort of incentive to switch and it could put e-bay out of business

Didn't realise they'd done that!

Reason is because they can't charge you fees on the postage.. so they'd rather it included in the price so they can charge you a percentage of the entire sale.

They also have the cheek to try and make everything go through paypal so you pay more fees again... and paypal have been a disgrace in my experience. Twice refunding money for items I'd sent AND proved I'd sent.

Glad to see them having some of their own medicine for once, and I'm very tempted to start a Facebook group saying "don't sign the ebay petition".
