Ebay question

SkullKing1300SkullKing1300

Big question.

if you sold say .. a PS3, you ship it, the customer argues he got something else .. say a brick, (he's lying).

How do you protect your sale?

    Simple answer - You can't..

You have to hope the buyer is honest.

If payment is by paypal you lose your money.
eBay is weighted in favour of buyers.
If buyers get scammed eBay looks bad.
If sellers get scammed nobody cares.

You tell the buyer you are coming to his house.

So, what the hell is this ebay seller protection all about, if someone can easily get scammed like that?

BTW, are there any couriers out there that check the contents before posting (for insurance purposes etc)?

i converted from iphones to samsung galaxy s2`s, i would not take paypal or post. would rather drive 200 miles to deliver, and do regularly when buying or selling high value goods.

i dont trust ebay 1 bit.. its just good for some bits that are fairly cheap.

Don't see peoples problems with Ebay. Have been scammed once only and that was because i used NoChex.
Had a few items i sent "Go Missing/Lost In Post" covered by the post office. If you use Ebay properly and don't go for what look like obvious scams theres no problems with it at all. Have bought from all round the World and the only time i was scammed was by a Scouser says it all really.

The sellers aren't always genuine either. I received a laptop listed as brand new with 12 month warranty. Laptop which turned up was old, scratched, not working and damaged. After several days of trying to get a refund he refused. Raised a paypal claim, sent item back and now he saying the laptop is not the one he sent. Finally eBay have refunded but it was so much hassle. Putting me off using eBay again.

op, im afraid paypal always favours the buyer. seller protection is a joke mainly applied in situations of credit card fraud even then the seller must meet a list of criteria.

if you still wish to use ebay then make it clear cash only

    good luck

Oh you are that really annoying person trolling hp tp and ebay threads.

There are ways and means to sell safely. I've only ever sold high value goods on ebay and never been scammed.

Not true, i had paypal side with me the one and only time i have had an issue from a buyer.. they said the phone i sent was scratched and not as described, so i showed paypal all the photos i had taken and they sided with me.

I don't see half the issues people have with paypal/ebay as if you take reasonable photos and got all the details then buyers have no leg to stand on if you can prove it

When I sell high value items, I always take a continuous video of me packing the items. The video is close up of every step, including the packaging and the Special Delivery sticker. Because I use Special Delivery envelopes, once sealed they cannot be tempered with.

I hold onto the video until such time as the Buyer confirms receipt and that he is happy with the product. In case of phones, I always retain the IMEI and would use this to immediately block the phone on the GSM register if anything funny happens. Also because of the steps I have taken, I can easily provide proof to the police to investigate a case of fraud and/or theft.

Thank god, I haven't been scammed by a buyer yet, but at least two sellers tried it on sending used /non-working items claiming they were new. Not to mention the hundreds who try to 'sell' non-existent iPhones on eBay.
