when listing check the relevent boxes

Yep, when you are in the first listing page (not the confirmation one), there is a box you can tick. Look at the second half of the page, under the written description and you should find the box to tick.

:thumbsup::whistling:

Though why anybody would want to use the private option is beyond me, always makes me think the sellers trying a scam.

my wife used to sell pregnancy tests on ebay and all her listings were private......not that it really made a difference as that was all she sold so if someone really wanted to know what you had bought they just had to see the other items my wife sold and they would have a pretty good idea!!

i can understand the need but dont like it:x
I know i have bought private listings many times and often they are new to ebay and i think they think its like having their phone number ex-directory in that it protects their privacy:w00t:

Depends what you are selling - I sold a book about how to deal with being a victim of child abuse and made that listing private for obvious reasons

Thought so :giggle:

;-)

Seriously though this is how it works.... Since ebay started hiding bidders names on ALL listings you can't see who you're bidding against, so all auctions are 99% private (you still get to see the winning bidder at the end) But you can check on other users bidding stats. Now when a scammer wants to make some quick dosh they start up a private listing and bid the price up themselves. There's no way you will ever know because you get to see no stats at all on the other bidders.

At the end of the day, if people want to list 'Used trainers, gay interest' and people want to buy them, they shouldn't hide the fact. Be proud cos the tat you're buying/selling is no worse than anything else on there PMSL:p

I know some people who make it private so they can get there friends to bid and bump up their prices. If you are selling loads of items at once and one guy is winning it all items and you check his location and he lives in same area kind of bait.
