Ebay question about con-confirmed address

Hi
I just sold a phone for over £100 on ebay and have received the money via paypal. However, it says that the buyers address is unconfirmed. I would be grateful if somebody could please advise how much this matters in terms of protection as it is unclear. Thank you.

generally if an address is unconfirmed, you're running the risk of a claim against you. You could lose your money and the person will have the phone!

Be very wary, but confirm with the person via messages, are they based in the uk?

Hi
I have sold quite a few phones before with no problem. Yes, they are based in the UK.

Not mobile phones. Unless you're well up on Paypal chargebacks, Nigerian scammers etc. Not worth the hassle.

I am in a similar position. I am about to list a camera lens which i would expect to get around the £300 mark. I was going to list it but with the following message concerning payment. Paypal only excepted on confirmed/verified addresses. If not verified, payment is to be by cheque only and goods posted once cheque cleared.

I wouldn't even accept a cheque, these are just as unsafe as unconfirmed addresses. I would state Postal order only if they can't pay by confirmed and verified PP accounts

Why isn't a cheque safe? Once it's cleared it's cleared innit? Provided you don't send untill it has it should be ok.

Cheque payments can still be cancelled or clawbacked, even after payment has cleared.

Wow

Did not know that cheques can be cancelled after they have been cleared. I sent in the end so hopefully will not regret.

The important thing is not whether the address is confirmed or not, it is whether the Seller Protection is showing as Eligible... if so, no matter what happens paypal will cover you if you retain proof of postage
