Ebay question - extra charge??

Hiya all,

Just bought a nunchuck and remote for my wii from Hong Kong. Won the auction and paid (great deal 27 quid) but then just seen this bit at the bottom
"As a buyer, it is your duty to pay the tax when you make a order from abroad. Our price does not include taxes, VAT, or other hidden charges"

So I dont get it? Will I have to pay a customs charge or something? If so does anyone know how much im gonna have to pay?

Thanks guys :)

You might have to pay Royal Mail or delivery service the extra for the tax. I have never had to pay, but I know others who have.

The customs/tax charge will depend on how the package is labelled.
If it is marked as a gift you will not pay if not you MAY have to pay.
£27 for a remote + nunchuck is a lot anyway!
Is it compatible with your wii?

yes! you are importing the item you will have to pay the charges.
you may be lucky and the item will come through with no charges but unlikely.
About 18 months ago my son ordered items from abroad, they were delivered and about 3 weeks later he received a bill from customs, just as he was celebrating his good fortune!

If you are unlucky enough to get stung for duty and tax, expect to pay around 20% of the purchase price including delivery charges and Royal Mail will add a small collection charge. But you will be very unlucky if you do incur charges.

It's unlikely to be the same remote you buy from Argos.
The Official wii remote is also available much cheaper with
the "play" game ( was £18.74 in Zavvi not long ago ) the nunchuck
can be purchased around £12.
£27 you paid ( plus possible taxes of around £5.50
for two products unlikely to be official nintendo and definately not
UK Pal.

EDIT

I presume Zavvi have run out of the Wii Play + Remote now?
Cheapest I can get it atm is £23.53
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/330429/nintendo-wii-play-incl-wiimote-23-5/
Plus the nunchuck for under a tenner
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/315838/nunchuk-controller-remote-for-ninte/
Total cost £33.13
( less the £7 + that you can sell the wii play game for )
AND you have OFFICIAL nintendo UK Pal products with guarantees..........

I agree with the extra added it it may not be as cheap, but it has a photo and says official nintendo wii and region free so there will be hell to pay if it isnt!

Ok so i didnt see those offers lol

Bit late now ive got it from ebay and paid already :(

You are kinda wrong. VAT is still charged on anything over £18 but duty is not charged untill the £100odd.
So in my eyes you are still liable for the VAT plus the £8 or whatever royal mail charge for handeling the payment.

It is rather confusing.
Basically anything bought into the Uk over £18 is liable to be charged at 15% vat.
Anything over £105 is liable to pay duty, this varies between products but is usually a few %+.
When an item is charged VAT or duty royal mail pay it on your behalf and then pop a nice little card through your letterbox saying they have paid it and so you must pay them £XX plus an £8-12 charge for the pleasure.
