Ebay return - Where do i stand?

Purchased a battery charger for my Fuji F40fd form ebay, when it arrived it was the wrong one, ad said "suitable for F40fd" but in my ignorance i didnt realise that it was for a NP-40 battery not a NP-70 (had not idea the f40fd has 2 different batteries? just thought it would be the one as it said "40fd), so it was my fault, it was £15.99 with free delivery, contacted the seller and he said i can return but will only get back £11.99 (will not refund the £4.00 postage it cost them), so it will cost me £4.00 to post it back recorded, so will have cost me £8 in the end? costly mistake or can the seller do that?

link to the auction?
generally though, your fault? You pay the postage, sellers fault, he pays postage.

ofc he can do that , it was your fault for not double checking , it states it all in description , so sorry to say m8 , you could either sell it on and buy the correct one or lose £8 for your own silly mistake

I bought a phone charger that was advertised wrong, only after I won it i realized it wasnt for my 6300 classic but the slide, but I just put it on ebay myself because by the time I paid return postage It wouldnt have been worth it.
Although when I have refunded in the past I always give the p+p back but not the return p+p.

The battery for the F40fd is the np70 ,if they said that the np40 was for the F40fd then the seller advertised it wrong,

I think if thats the case for def then may ask him to split it, thought it was odd that you have 2 different batteries for a F40fd?, worth a punt i suppose,

I should have checked tbh, never mind these things happen

why dont you just resell it and cut your loses?

to be honest CDM the seller is being generous by offering a refund exc postage. As long as the item sold was fit for purpose and accurately described then they dont have to refund at all.

Like you said, it was your fault for not realising the item you had purchased wasnt the item you needed. Lesson learned for next time...just as well it wasnt really expensive!

Unless he is a reg business and you won Buy It Now this is a fair offer.

If as above you can get DSR to apply.
