bargaincrazy09 Avatar

Just had a buyer buy an item I had on ebay for the buy it now price, they joined today , have no feedback & send me a message saying they couldn't pay through ebay, so would like my paypal address to send payment over plus shipping costs (which is already included anyway) funny thing is the address is to London,

Now I know this screams scam , but what will happen when they don't pay ? Do I still get charged the fees etc ?

I sent them an invoice via ebay so lets see what happens.

Yup ebay charge a final value fee you get that back if you open a claim for non payment. If you dont want any hassle just ask for a cheque?
#3
i had one like this once..but the buyer wanted to meet to collect-it was a phone-i thought dodgey but went with my partner-turned out he was a policeman and just joined to buy the phone.
See what happens next-give it chance? you can claim your fees if it goes pear-shaped.

Play along with the scammer & let's see what Address he gives you if it's in London.

tell him if he can't pay through ebay then the only payment you will accept is western union - bet you don't hear from them again
#6
they probably intend to send you a spoof paypal email to inform you payment has been made
#7
Thanks for all the comments guys, I never put on the listing how soon payment must be made for so I will give them live 3 days and then mark it as payment not received ?
#8
Also maybe jumping the gun as they may be legit but is there anyway I can report them to Ebay ? Just I wouldn't like to think someone getting scammed this way.

you could ring ebay 08003586552

Or the buyer pays via paypal, Seller posts with tracking number, Then the buyers bank refuses the direct debit or card charge, meaning the seller gets a charge back of the amount.
Even with tracking number the buyer knows its such hard work with paypal to get money back when you are off Ebay.

Sedd33 this is 100% a scam. The buyer sends the seller a Fake paypal message saying he has received payment (very common).
OP tell him your email address then wait 10 minutes & he will send you this false paypal email, but you will know it's fake once you log-on to your paypal account to see no payment has been made.

The scam is, if he has a paypal account then he can pay through ebay. If its a hacked account then it won't be linked to the ebay account and there is likely to be problems paying. Paying outside of ebay gets round that problem for them. It also removes a lot of the protection ebay and paypal provide. But then again, as you say you know everything about ebay and paypal you already know that and are, again, trying to get someone to lose money.
You really are a sad pathetic individual, just because you got scammed, trying to get others to fall for the same thing just so you can laugh at them is pretty sick TBH.

He/she knows it is, just look through other ebay/paypal threads where they have deliberately gave the wrong information so that the OP will lose money.

Sedd33, what a nasty plank you are. This is not the first time I've seen you trying to get people ripped off on ebay. Just because you were, doesn't mean you should go trying to get others into your boat. What a small small person to gain pleasure from it.

@op, its a scam, steer well clear.

wow strong accusations there against Sedd33. I have not looked into the matter but if what you all are saying is correct, then someone who constantly hands out wrong advice deliberately to get another member scammed, is someone who should be banned. We are a community.

I don't think he's trying to get someone scammed, but do think he needs to read the full paypal rules.

Can you not accept payment and wait until it clears to your bank before you post?

Is he not paypal verified?

What's funny about the address being in London?

If they do send a fake Paypal e-mail, that is easily verified by logging into Paypal (make sure you type the address and not use any links)

If you're concerned, just ask them to send you the money via Bank Transfer.

What's the item, some items are more prone than others to scams.

i sell used to sell a lot of stuff outside of ebay using paypal :|

Give them my details (paypal account).
Check my own paypal account to see if i got the funds.
Wait for this to clear before sending the item out

I've never had any problems with people scamming me (lucky i suppose).

If u fall for a fake e-mail and not check your own paypal account then it's your own fault really.

One thing that throws me off is that they said they can't pay through ebay but can on paypal? Weird!

lol at people gunning sedd though, calm down people.

oh he is. It's very obvious if you read his recent posts.
His friend got ripped off for £400, all of a sudden he starts posting completely wrong advice in almost every paypal thread, advice which, if followed, would almost certainly get the OP ripped off.

I withdraw funds from PayPal before sending any items. PayPal cannot do chargebacks to my bank account as it is a basic cardcash account I've had since I was 15. The account doesn't allow direct debits or overdrafts. Once the money hits that account, it then gets transferred to my regular bank account. Only then do I send the goods.

I wouldn't say the buyer is definitely a scammer but some precautions should be made. If they have no feedback explain to them that you'd like to speak with them on the phone first. If they say no, then offer the sale to the second highest bidder.

If it all falls through then you will be able to get the final value fees refunded but the listing fee will still stand.

Well what do you know, just got an email from Ebay saying the buyers account had been suspended for issues relating to there account. I was refunded the final value fee but not the listing fee, is this lost or can I claim it back ?

You aren't entitled to a refund of listing fees, you only get a credit for it if you relist and it sells second time round and it has to be in auction format, the OP listed as a buy it now, they arent eligible for a refund

From ebay...
...if your buyer doesn't pay, you can qualify for an insertion fee credit by relisting the item. If the item sells the second time, we'll credit your account for the insertion fee for the relisting...

Both the original listing and the relisting must be in auction-style format.

Buy It Now and Classified Ad Real Estate listing formats aren't eligible to receive the relisting credit.
