Why do people do this? Surely PayPal is just going to pull that money straight back off them and back into my bank account lol?

What makes you think it's a scam sellers know very well they will lose this case and you will get the money back. I'm failing to see the scam in this.

Could be someone pulling a fast one who needs the money quickly and willing to deal with the negative feedback/refund at a later date.

What if they have closed their paypal account?

I am amazed how many buyers are prepared to purchase off 'one hit wonders' with zero or very little feedback on eBay. That is so true when it comes to the likes of Crest Whitestrips which is a listing policy violation when posted on the UK site. eBay in their greed to make money are to blame for that however as the search is set to 'default' as opposed to 'UK only' which generates more results and potential profit.

You'll always find scammers on Ebay, both Sellers & Buyers. It always amazes me how many people jump in (Assuming they have nothing to lose) and buy an expensive item from a zero seller, a seller with 200+ new iPhones, 400 iMac's etc offering them for a fraction of their actual worth. In reality you're giving an a scammer your name, address, e-mail address and contact number.

Such listings are now few and far between but I've noticed the same tactic being used on cheap items, Torches for example. Buyers are far more likely to buy a £3.99 Torch kit (that should actually be £15) once such zero rated seller sold 800+ on one listing alone before it was stopped. Ironically I ended up buying a Torch last week from a UK seller with 3000+ feedback and they've done a runner leaving me literally in the dark!
