eBay seller wants to use my PayPal address.....
I've bought a low value digital item from eBay and the seller has provided me with the item.
Now he has messaged me saying his account is limited (appears to be true) but needs a favour from me.
He want's to use my paypal account (email only, no password) to accept payments and after a couple of weeks when the limitation gets lifted, I transfer the funds over to him.
What con is he trying to pull?
He can't just blindly trust a random guy on the internet.

Hmmm. Did not think of that one.
Could be true.
I won't be getting involved. Got enough things to worry about already.

Seriously, what would be the point in trusting a stranger...surely he has a friend or relative that he can trust with his money a lot more and what would be in it for you?
I personally think he's trying to get you to accept the payment, send the money to him and then everyone will be making claims that they haven't received the item, so Ebay will automatically take the money from your account, even if it's empty, it'll be taken from your bank account for failing to prove you sent the item.

That is definately what will happen. thats why he wants you to do it for two weeks because no one will be able to claim until then and bang, after a few weeks you will be hit with hundreds of non received claims and he walks into sunset with thousands and scot free.
Report the scum

I reckon you guys have hit the nail on the head.
I've told the guy that I'm not willing to let him use my paypal address.

Seller is from India.
I'm Indian so there's a possible connection. He must have been able to tell by my name.
I've contacted several of his previous customers to see if they've been asked for a similar favour.
Will update when I have more info.

No doubt you would indeed be liable when he sold some expensive item and you received the cash , only for you to move it back to him. Paypal would then seize your funds.

Are they really? Must be fluent in Polish too as the images are hosted on a Polish site http://images35.fotosik.pl/971/29fbd562530d3f96med.jpg
Stay clear you'll be done for money laundering and if by any chance they cleared a set figure or your own account was to take over a certain amount HMRC will be told then you'll be hit for taxes etc

I'd say it was clever, but its not really. Its obvious unless you are completely dumb. No offence OP, I just don't think you thought it through :p
Scammer buys something cheap and pays via paypal to obtain sellers PP address.
Scammer opens new ebay account and registers very similar paypal address but then asks for payment to original address for seller.
Scammer then emails this email address and says "sorry, I have used your email by mistake, can you please send my funds to my similar account".
People would fall for this too.
