eBay selling question. First class standard or first class recorded?

I'm selling a small item that should go for about £10. But I'm fed up of paying £2 for recorded delivery. How safe is it to send the item using just first class standard?

I don't want the buyer doing any tricks like 'didn't arrive must have got lost' blah blah. thx

The proper answer is you should always send recorded.

However, i never post recorded and i am yet to have any problems, touch wood.

Recorded delivery should only be 75p extra anyway

I always send items recorded delivery, then there can be no argument about item arriving. If you set postage charges high enough to cover this there should be no problem with cost.

Is the item in a free postage category? If not, why be fussed about how much postage is, as the buyer has to pay it :?

If you send first class, and the buyer claims not to have recieved it (which happens) Paypal will rule in their favour and refund them. If you get a proof of postage though you can them put in a claim through RM, but it can be a slow process.

Write postcode on receipt? You mean get them to do that on the machine?

It's a free postage category, so I have to pay it.

When you say if you get proof of postage and can claim from RM you mean if you choose recorded right? If so I already knew that!

if there is a dispute without recorded delivery paypal will refund buyer. as long las you have proof of postage then you claim off rm, but probably after a long lengthy claim

No he means proof of postage, you can ask for it when you post something but like others have said if they raise a dispute with paypal the buyer will get refunded

Nope, if you get a proof of postage at the post office (just ask when you post the item) you can then put in a claim for non-delivery if it doesn't get there. RM write to the recipient though, to check it hasn't arrived.

In that case it's better to do first class standard then! What are the chances that the item will not arrive AND RM refuse claim? Extremely small.

I've only sold a few items and thankfully haven't had any problems. This is my first one though with just the first class standard hoping it goes smoothly.

I have sold a fair number of items and just get proof of posting , so far never had to claim. Obviously the few expensive items go recorded or courier signed for.

I have had someone state they didn't recieve the item after sending it 1st class recorded mail. I checked royal mails website that stated the parcel had been delivered but proof of postage was not available. They then put in a paypal claim and it was in their favour as paypal said it's needs to be a fully trackable service. i.e special delivery. I now only send normal 1st class.

Majority of people are genuine on Ebay especially if you offer them a good service.
