Yep its pethetic.

You are no longer alowed to use words that describe the condition of the item, except things like 'New' or 'Used'. I used to put 'As New' but my listing was removed because of that.

And as much as paypal can be a pain, I actually think its a good thing that its compulsory, I like using paypal, its so much easier/safer for both the buyer and the seller.

always click pay by paypal but also put collection only / cash on collection, or they just rip you off

Basically, eBay can do exactly as they please, and charge what they like - and they do. That's because there is no effective competition.

Only when there is effective competition (and eventually someone like Google with the financial clout to take eBay on will do it) will things change, and the large number of people who hate eBay will ditch it.

Ebay owns Paypal which explains a few things.

I cant wait for someone to take on Ebay.

Lot of ebayers have gone to ebid its really soared.
I find the search thingy hopeless though and get frustrated.
But things on ebid are definately cheaper most the time, because they dont have the horrific fees ebay are demanding.

don't use ebay, simple

I've never had many problems with using ebay to be honest, but I do find their fees to be absolutely ridiculous

I don't think the OP would be too pleased to hear that his items may sell for less! It may have less fees but if the final sale price is significantly lower than the E-Bay fees may be worthwhile after all!

The buying rules are retarded too. I was blocked from buying seeds for my herb patch last year, because eBay considered them an offensive weapon. Why? Because they were spearmint seeds. I mean, wtf?

Good indication of a timewaster, that's why they get removed:thumbsup:

I dunno, new rules generally tighten up ebay and make it harder for scammers and bad sellers. All of the examples above seem fine to me, and I've always been happy with the service they offer. Contrary to what many people say, I also don't think their fees are extortionate. Yes, we'd all like them as low as possible, but the cut they take is pretty fair for the slick service they offer. Even with paypal, it usually works out at a bit less than 10%, right? They are worth that cut at least, especially considering the mass audience they reach. Trying taking your tat to a car boot and see how well you do!

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Yes, the site works pretty well, but when you need any intervention they're useless (because they won't spend the money it needs to do it properly) and I think 10% to use something which is just a money printing machine for eBay shareholders is just a rip-off.

They're worth it only because there's as yet no effective competitor. In the same way that ITV was once worth the price it charged its advertisers when there were no competitors. Look at the mess ITV is in now. That could well be eBay in a few years - maybe sooner. One effective competitor and everything will change.

I have no idea how many years people have been saying that  If it did look like happening ebay would buy them out, like they have with all their past competitors.

[eBay] should take a lot more responsibility than they do when things go wrong, instead of spouting, "we are just a venue". Paypal are taking steps in the right direction, they now cover buyers for the full purchase amount. However it's not enough so may people are still getting scammed, more so sellers, ebay should be doing more.

But isn't that the point? Paypal are owned by eBay, so they actually are taking these steps.

It will change. Google have a vast cash mountain and are reputed to be working on it, of course, but there are other potential competitors out there with the financial clout to take eBay on and succeed.

Every monopoly eventually breeds competition, simply because the rewards are so great, and most companies have a natural life cycle which comes to an end at some point. Dixons was invincible a few years back, but it had a lot of disgruntled customers and look at it now after it hit competition. Likewise Microsoft.

eBay will be hit sooner or later. I just hope it's sooner. ;-)

I see. Oh well, let's hope they speed up those steps then.

My experience with eBay / Paypal has always been good. Maybe I'm just lucky.
