eBay; victim of its own success IMHO. Far too many idiots and it's kinda gotten a bit boring. Was fun for a while, addictive for a while, and now it's sunk into the background a bit.

Either a Nigerian or that ^^^

Or they may mysteriously allow the highest bidder to drop out and you are now the highest bidder, at the highest amount you were prepared to pay rather than the price it would've finished at.
#7
maybe some members of the answer centre know something you dont and are bidding this way to stop someone getting scammed ive seen it done before

or

its a scammer they always bid stupid prices then ask for it to be sent to a priest in niger you lot know the rest...

Morning Rock,

Paypal either covers you for £150 or £500 depending on whether they are verified.

Sorry but I disagree with that Syzable.
Scammers know full well how to use Paypal to their advantage on Ebay (or anywhere else for that matter) and there are very easy ways to scam using Paypal I assure you.
Paypal really are a law unto themselves and unless you read and understand their terms and conditions word for word you stand to come seriously unstuck at some stage. Doing that will take you the best part of a day and a good experience of laws and loopholes !!

The main thing that Paypal has going for it is ease of use and the fact it is embedded into the Ebay systems.
These days I will only ever use Paypal for sending money and as a last resort for small amounts of payments to me.

It's greed and lack of communication that cause the problems on the HUKD boards plus it needs a Mod with enough time and understanding to take control I reckon.
No offence to the Mods here because I think in the main they do a good job but the site has grown so much, so quickly, and I'm willing to bet they just don't have the time to devote to the board.

Just my opinion of course :)

Ive been conned twice with over £120 on ebay using paypal
Not on here as im very careful who i buy off
[admin]#16
S'ok Sy, I'm on your side :)- I've been scammed on ebay once in 3 years, £300 for some concert tickets, Paypal were great and paid up pretty quickly.

There are people who'll try and pull a fast one but they usually stand out a mile.

At least you're insured by paypal if you get ripped off. Plus if you are in dispute with someone, you can actually discuss it and usually reach an agreement without the need for slanging matches and twenty other people getting involved.

I bought a phone off ebay just over 2 years ago now for £200.
The **** never sent it and all I got back through Paypal after waiting over 10 days after filing a complaint was £100....case closed....he was banned then but is probably still ripping people off now under a different name

You are guaranteed a refund upto £150 or £500 with eBay now if you use PAYPAL and they can't prove it's been delivered regardless of whether they have money in their account or not.

As for the For Sale forum here........it's nothing to do with time, Admin has stated before that he's not interested in it to the point of it being properly moderated and they also do not care if people are scammed. So in my opinion it's a worthless addition to the forums.

QED for me I am afraid JB...If you guys who seem to know your way around these types of site can get scammed ..then what chance to people like me have. I think I will just avoid.

Past scams on eBay were a different story..........they have changed the protection policy this year which gives guaranteed cover on all sales.

There's always two sides to every story J_B and I'm glad you got your money back.
The point I was tying to make is that Paypal are NOT safe, period. If someone wants to scam you they can scam you using Paypal as much as any other method.
I stick by my statement that Paypal are a law unto themselves. Although Americansed and obviously biased the following site always makes interesting reading. Most of what is pointed out also applies to Paypal users in this country.

I hear what you say in your last sentence ;-)

In all honesty, it was hubby that bought the tickets, and if I'd have been looking at them at the time, I wouldn't have bid. The guy was listed as a business seller, but had never sold tickets before, then all of a sudden he had twelve sets of take that front row tickets. I always check the listing, check the feedback, check the listing again... if I find the smallest thing that doesn't quite add up, I don't bid.

I don't think I'd buy from the FS FT forum as, like Si says, anyone could rip you off at anytime. Seems to be some people who sell on there should've been banned for not sticking to the T&Cs a long time ago, but still continue to trade. In My Opinion, with an unmoderated (to a certain extent) board, it should be "One Strike, and you're out....."

I've been selling/buying on Ebay for about 8 years now....it was great up until 2 years ago, you could actually find a bargain, it's really lost it's shine now and the fees rose dramatically for shop owners (I had a shop) just over a year ago.....I was part of the Ebay Fee Hike back then and the action group.....we had 24 hour strikes and my fee hike auction was shown on channel 4 news, didn't make a difference lol

Good, I want a pure white room please, with organza lillies, but make sure you cut off each individual pod of pollen as I don't want any yellow stains :|

:giggle:

And a bowl of M&M's with all the green ones removed.
And some fresh sushi.
And a large pen to keep the children in while I have my nails done :|
