eBOOKs - Do you have one - what's it like?

After saying I would never have an eBOOK 'cause I love the smell of a real book (a bit weird I know!) I was given a Kindle by niece who didn't use it! Have to say I am hooked - have downloaded huge amount of books and I wouldn't be without it! Hubby is also chufty as he gets back a few shelves around the house as I don't buy books so much!!

I was thinking of getting one for my mum and mum in law but the Kindle's are a bit pricey! Does anyone have the cheaper eBOOKS and would you say they are as good or better?

Thanks for your input!

Yes, I have one, a Sony, and use it every day. I have downloaded over 600 books from various sites and converted them into ePub (and Kindle for a friend). It took me a while to decide if to get one or not, but glad I did.

If pos, could you send me a link so I can look it up please? I agree it is so easy to download books - I thought it would be difficult to get hold of new books but have been really lucky to get all the ones I have wanted!

I did not get the material from any particular site. I just Googled "Free online books" and cut and pasted into Word then loaded them on http://www.2epub.com and converted them. I also use Calibra (http://calibre-ebook.com) to convert large quantities

I'm not interested in modern books, so found the books I like very easily. There are loads of sites offering free books for Kindle and other readers too..

Sorry! I didn't mean the download site - I meant the Sony eBOOK so I could look it up for price and ease of use etc! But thanks anyway x

This is the one I have, but there are better ones in the range.

But .... I think the one mentioned above in post 4 is a great price.

I have an iRiver

easy to use and download e-books, also good as can check email etc. Not sure how it compares to Kindle as hubby chose it for me for christmas pressie. He seemed to think better as can source books other than amazon (or something like that - he's the geek of the house so left it up to him).
Every book I've said I'd like he has managed to source online ...and I doubt he's paid for any of them!

no need to keep writing eBOOK in caps. Plus you're looking for an e-reader / e-book reader.

e-books are the file you put onto them.
