Just tried to put some money on to our EDF Energy Siemens Keymeter (S2S-601A). Used a Pay Point, however when I put the key into the machine it came up with error 17. and then said key accpeted £000. So am now down £50 has anyone had this happen before?? Any advice please?

You can only put it one way, I just went to top up again because we are very low on electricty and it accepted this time, however the £50 is still outstanding.

The trouble is only the emergency line is open, is this justifiable use of it? If I wait until Monday how can I prove I haven't just used the electricity?

Yes, phone them and make sure you've got your Paypoint receipt.

Could paypoint have put your number in wrong, check on your receipt, sorry if thats a daft question but I have never paid that way before

I'd ring if it were me. If you're low on electric and cash and you may be left with no electric (through no fault of your own) then I think you're justified in calling :)

Don't you still get the little paypoint receipts with the keys ?. Theres your proof of purchase. Phone them up and ask for someone to do a meter check and it should show payments put on. Once they see payments on the machine do not match your purchase they should refund/put that amount on for you.

Had this happen with the old token units in my old place. Went through the above in a week before I had the credit put on.

Cheers guys, yer I don't like them but were in a student house so we don't really have a say in the matter. I have just called and they are sending out someone to take a look in the next 24hrs.

Costs a few hundred to the user to change.....Thats why people use them.

What do you mean it cost`s a few hundred to the user to change?

To have a meter exchanged from prepay to credit doesn't cost the customer a penny, well certainly not with EDF Energy anyway..

In my case, it's cheaper than having a quarterly bill. I've got no gripes with using a key if it makes my bills less :thumbsup:

It may be easier to budget but it definitely wont be cheaper !! The cheapest method of payment is direct debit - key and card meters are set at a higher tariff rate as they are usually fitted in properties where there have been problems with bills, or where there may be problems, such as shared houses etc.

No, it's definitely cheaper. Scottish Power told me my rates would be less on a key meter and it's definitely costing me less so far. I'm all electric btw, no gas.

That's the wierdest thing ever lol :? ! But if it works for you ........:thumbsup:
We're all electric too as no gas up here - and we couldnt get rid of the key meter quick enough when we moved in as it was eating leccie :) !!

I meant to "normal" direct debt.

Some companies will charge the user to replace the meter...not normally in the hundreds though. And some companies can refuse following a credit check.

Any update from OP, would be keen to know from a work point of view...?

Hi, unfortunately inherited a key when we moved in 11years ago. Never been a problem until recently. Each time I insert the key with credit it keeps coming up with ' error 62' I keep re-inserting the key maybe 9 or 10 times and eventually it accepts the credit. Do I need anew key??? Regards graham ward.
