A statement from Uefa on their official website read: "Following examination of all the evidence, notably the declarations of both the referee and the referees' assessor, as well as the various video footage, it was not established to the panel's satisfaction that the referee had been deceived in taking his decision on the penalty."

Why did they do that?

He clearly cheated and if they stuck with the ban - it would send a message out that they aint taking this bull from other players anymore.

Now they just look like a joke.

Good.

Was never going to be a manageable 'solution'.

Arsenal get a player back, whilst one of their competition loses a player for about 3 matches.

Poor, poor Arsenal:whistling:

Rooney cheated when Man Ure played Arsenal to get a penatly (video footage proves it), was anything done about that-NO! Did the newspapers go on about it -NO!
Was Eduardo the first player to do it-NO, will he be the last-NO!

On a previous post, Rooney was skidding well early - typical Man Ure style!

Reaching for the ball, saving it from possibly going in! :whistling:

It's hard to judge with the Rooney one. It would have been a stone wall penalty if there was contact , but Rooney started to go down before he reached Almunia. I can understand why the referee gave it (from where he was standing) but other referees, if in a different position, might have booked him for diving.

ahh i see, thanks for that, but it wasnt exactly simulation, seems he was going down yes, but was helped by almunia and if a keeper doesnt get the ball nowadays, its a penalty...

See why it's debatable now though, but hardly compares

@ midlandscomics.

Spot on, it was a part dive. Definately.

We had a similar incident at the weekend........ Gerrard races into the area, gets clipped by Jensen (who doesn't get the ball in the process) but stayed on his feet. He goes on to hit the post and the refere gives a goal kick. This was in front of the Kop too (and you know how home support can influence these things) and on another day this could have been given.

Luck of the draw really :)

too right, premiership referees are too inconsistant.. always have been, always will be.. lets bring on the video replay for some other person to decide! (but when they get it wrong with little time to decide, see em get lynched on their way out and end up in a body bag because of it...)

Clearly a stone wall penalty, Yes Rooney was going down, However Almunia never got the ball, Yes Rooney played for the penalty.

Ronaldo often bought the contact, So do most players.

Contact with the player and not the ball = penalty.

I can also understand why their not given.

As for Edurardo

1. Clearly a dive.
2. It's unfair to penalize a single player.
3. They shouldn't of gone back on their own decision.
4. Uefa should be done for bringing the game into disrepute.
5. I hate Platini
