morning!
i'm planning my holiday to egypt at the mo and was wandering if anyone could help me.
i'm planning on taking a day trip to luxor and wanted to know if it's better to book the excursion through the holiday rep whilst there, or is it a cheaper option to go online and book a trip with an independant company before i go?
many thanks for any help/advice :)

HI.... when i was in sharm a while back, my only advice would be - if you are going to try getting it from there, shop around.... the hotel reps were quite pricey as were the random "tour operators" who wandered around the poolside! I ended up getting tickets for cairo through a travel agent in Na’ama Bay... mainly if somethign did go wrong, i know the shop would more than likely still be there the next day :)

I think if you wanna try and get tickets from here - you might wanna give egyptair a try to book flights - but then you'll have to organise a guide - not sure if you can do it via egyptair tho!

I normally see what poeple have written on wiki travel - http://wikitravel.org/en/Egypt - you might be able to find some help on there!

Have a good time out there - egypt is amazing!

The hotel we stayed at in Sharm had its own beach/dive club and they offered the excursions as excellent prices. We have been back 5 times so they always give us awesome prices. But as they are linked to the hotel they are 5* and offer a fab service.

I would wait until you get there and book with either the hotel rep or via a shop that you see. Make sure that they have an office or a link to a hotel that way if anything goes wrong you have somwhere to go back to.

Enjoy, you will love it. (we are going back in July)

thanks for all your help :)
i went to sharm about 5 years ago now and booked a trip to cairo with a local travel agent which was wonderful :) as i've already done the cairo thing and seen the pyramids i fancied luxor this time
am taking another holiday to egypt this summer and am looking around at prices today, don't know wheather to goto sharm again or stay in Hurghada this time as the trips to luxor will probably be cheaper from there (i'm on a bit of a tight budget!)

bah there's far too many options!!

rep to you both :)

Have a look at the Hilton Sharks Bay in Sharm. Its amazing hotel and has all been refurbished - Lovely place to go.

We arranged ours by speaking to the concierge at the hotel, we got a great deal and had a great time in Luxor.

Why people go to Sharm El Shiekh is beyond me... It's like blackpool with camels!

Ahhh but then I don't understand why anyone would stay 5* and devoid themselves of culture... I'd much prefer a tent..

Just my crazy opinion though...

Yes well your in a 5* hotel and you feel safe and happy and then you take a 2min taxi ride and your in the middle of the desert. We spent a night in the bedouin tents, had a bbq watched the sunset, watched the stars. We got the quads to the tents and then had a camel ride back. 2min taxi ride again and your back in 5*! Amazing lol

So you would recommend the Hilton Sharks Bay hotel then? Me and my boyfriend are looking at going to Sharm this year and can't decide on a hotel!

Good for diving, good if you want a holiday in Egypt that feels like it's not a holiday in Egypt, good for consistently hot weather and also can be done fairly cheap if you're on a budget.

I feel like i'm being unfairly harsh on the place here and I've been to far worst places on earth...

Good for hair raising taxi rides also...

Yes Yes Yes - Fantastic hotel. They have just built a whole new extension bit. All the holiday sites show the old pics but if you go on Asda travel they have the new pics. It looks amazing. We have been twice a year for the past 3 years and are going back this July.

Its amazing, you have everything there.

If you email the hotel with your flight details they will send a private taxi to you that works for the Hilton, it costs about £6 and its a smart air conditioned decent car. You can get a taxi for £6 to Naama Bay (the main strip). They will come back for you when you ask. So you dont have to worry about getting in a taxi and them charging you loads! You know your safe as its a Hilton taxi. Also you can get into the waterpark in Naama Bay for free as you stay at the Hilton.

Ok, that sounds perfect. We wanted to be near the waterpark and if it is free, that is even better.

Did you go all inclusive, if so, did you think it was worth it?

Also, did you have vaccinations before you went? I keep reading that you need vaccinations before you go to Egypt but then other sites say you don't so I am rather confused.

Yes this hotel is only all inclusive. Ice cream any time of day! The are various cafe's, restaurants, bars, bbq's so you can get food all day long! They do the best pancakes for breakfast! :-D

I had no vaccinations but my Fiance got his and his little boy had them as well. Take the mossie plug-ins. Just plug them in your room all the time (its not your electricity :whistling:) and they wont come anywhere near your room! Make sure at night you spray yourself with mossie spray before you go out and you will be fine. We have never been bitten there. You will notice the staff go round at night as its getting dark with large hoses spraying the air with mossie repellent - So they do their best to help.

The dive club there organises all the excursions - Sayeed & Mohammed do it and they are fantastic, will give you great rates if you book more than one trip. They do everything from parasailing to the quad trips. Next door to this hotel is the Concorde El Salam they have an ice skating rink and an equestrian centre. You can go in and use the facilities - Obviously at a charge but you dont have to stay at that hotel to use it. I have been horse riding there on the most beautiful arab horse. We went right into the desert and galloped along - Fantastic!

It sounds perfect - despite the vaccinations (I have a ridiculous fear of needles).

All important question - did you feel safe there? Lots of people think that Egypt is quite dangerous, I personally don't think so long as you don't go wandering off into the dodgy parts!

I can't advise on your question, but i would advise against a camel ride up to the pyramids
if you have a choice go by coach.:thumbsup:

Have you considered the Nile Cruise option...???

If you really want to see the historic sites this is a great choice..
Most of the cruises include ten excursions, with a few optional extra trips, such as Abu Simbel, and Cairo.

You can choose the budget that suits you, from as little as £300 upwards.. (via special offers)
If you think this could be for you I can give more info..

I've been on the Nile Cruise twice, loved it.....
