well we have been fasting whole month... (yeh but then stuffing ourselves laters):p

Most (if not all) of the Muslims that work for me have booked Monday off so as to celebrate on Sunday... I think they'll be a tad miffed if they've got their sums wrong...

I think the uncertainity is a great idea... us 'present givers' should do the same for xmas... 'on or about the 25th December (moon permitting)'

Well it all depends on the sighting of the moon!

To keep it simple. New moon = New month, which means the end of the fasting month:thumbsup:

The Islamic calender is based on lunar months. Whenever there is a new moon it is a new month. One of the advantages of this is that you do not need a calender - all you have to do is keep- track of the moon. There are 12 months with either 29 or 30 days. The sighting of the new moon signifies the new month and the first of the new month (Shawwal) is Eid. hope that made sense:thumbsup:

as its considered wrong to fast on eid day! You cant really predict when eid will be! Like i mentioned earlier it all comes down to the sighting of the moon! If you go according to the lunar calender a lunar month will either have 29 or 30 days. But you cant gurantee what it will be!

Some groups will go by a calculated prediction on when eid will be, whilst other will wait for the sighting of the moon to be confirmed!

I think I am right in saying that Easter is worked out via moon phases isn't it so in a way we do the same.

That's why Easter can be as late as mid April and as early as late March.

Easter Sunday typically falls on a different date each year. Easter is always the first Sunday after or on the first full moon, after the spring (vernal) Equinox. Google is clever.

so its nothing to do with when the bunny hid the eggs?

wont the day depends on which part of the world you are in?

moon being sighted in asia in a different time zone would apply to here?

true,

thats why you see some parts of the world doing eid on one day and others doing another day! Even in the same continent - some parts will do one day others will do another!

Its all to do with horizons/lattitude etc...

#20
so youve actually got to see the moon for yourself before you stop then i take it

you cant go from someone elses sightings and start a smoke thingy to let everyone know in the valleys lol
