Electric bills? How much does yours work out at weekly?

harlzterharlzter

Just got a shock to find our bill worked out at £25/wk - £100 month over the last 5 months, is this the norm now? Or is it over use of the dryer and forgetting to turn the immersion off (solid fuel so no combi boiler!).

This is for a 3 bed semi.

A unit of electricity is currently 11.47 from Hydro Electric depending on what deal you have as pay monthly is cheaper and direct debit is cheaper again
A unit of gas is 3.77 again same deals as above

Just moved house and i have been quoted as £47 a month for electric and £78 for gas (they agree thats steep) I have a 4 bedroom town house if that helps

A £100 a month for heating and electric over the winter (in Scotland its been very poor )is not bad

Yikes just checked the power consumption of the dryer and its 4.48kwh so about 40p per hour x a couple of hours daily soon adds up!

You could get your electric down to around £5 per week if you buy only the lowest power electricals. For example you can now get 25W pcs, 15W monitors, 30W tvs. When 5 years ago you would be looking at 100W pc, 60W monitor, 100W tv.

No one ever mentions the power consumption on hotukdeals which is the most important factor in buying a new washing machine or tv etc for me!!

Just checked online and our electric bill is due this week. Not had one since October last year, and this bill is for £300ish. Gas is about £225.

Any of you using energy monitors? I'm pretty obsessed with ours, forever nagging when the wife starts using it excessively. Worth looking into if you don't have one, saves us a fortune.

Ours is running at £18 per week for the electricity, we dont have an immersion heater which probably makes a big difference.

we just had our bills in for the month and both were just over £50 each but we do have solar panels which keeps the electric down a bit.

If you have an electricity monitor, check out how much it costs to run an electric shower. I was shocked when I checked oO
