Hey im pondering whether to buy this or not
Its a 3/4 electric for £79.99

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5407512.htm

Is it just for kids or can anyone use it - seems a perfect way for me to start learning

Is it decent for the price and good for beginners

Unless you're a dwarf that guitar would be useless.

You'd be better getting one of these : http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/126346

Best bet would be to go into a music shop and pick up both a 3/4 then a full size, To me the 3/4 was noticably smaller, Strings were also closer together, So harder to play aswell IMO.

don't get a 3/4.
It would just be too small, and you would eventually need to buy a full size anyway.
:)
#21
if you want to learn to play guitar, i suggest starting with an acoustic

Wish he'd been around when I was first learning.

I'm not so sure if buying an acoustic may be the easiest way to learn, unless it's a classical acoustic. Electric guitars generally have lower actions and are easier to hit and hold notes. Don't buy 3/4 otherwise you'll only limit your learning. £100 will buy you plenty of guitar for your money. Don't neglect bricks & mortar shops either as some can give really good deals on packages and offer after-sales help as well.
#25
hence playing on an acoustic is better for learning, it forces your fingers to be stronger, can hold a note longer. Once you can play the acoustic fluntly the electric will seem easy.

Ive got a rubbish accoustic guitar that looks and feels cheap and no matter what macine i use it wont tune - im buying an electric because i prefer it and tis my kind of music - rock
#27
Before you buy anything, what kind of rock are you in to, and whose guitar sounds do you like the most?
#28
I have a nice tanglewood one for sale, seldom used as i prefer acoustic. Looks like this

Just thought I'd have my two pence worth, i used to sell these guitars...

If I were you I would look for a 'les paul' copy, judging from the bands you like and from the adaptability of the guitar. Generally they are a bit tougher on the fingers than a strat (I said generally so don't flame me:-D ) and for sound quality...low end strats pick up a lot more noise than low end les pauls. I posted a deal a wee while ago for a decent starter pack, but for the life of me can't find it anymore :giggle:

so many companies make les paul and strat copies that it is hard to know between them. some will look like bargins and you'll think - wow that looks like a great toy for 60 quid and it may just turn out to be junk as nice as it may look. its kind of like having a print of a painting instead of the origional, ok from a distance etc. not all copies are awful, its worth trying a few out, but keep in mind these things are made in china for peanuts. Again, go with a brand name, as apposed to some snappy name like "guitar u like". you'll get your money back on it if you do.

and low end strats will buzz more then low end les pauls because strats come standard with singlecoils and pauls with humbuckers

I trawled through a number of sites and found these two deals for you, both a little bit more than you would probably want to pay BUT, they will last yuo for a very long time with pretty much none of the hassle you'll get with cheaper alternatives. Plus, they're the real thing, not cheap imitations. The SG is a nice in-between alternative from the strat and the les paul and might suit you more...also it looks mean and comes in red which you said you wanted.

Hope this helps you out, and if you can afford either of these, take them instead of the cheapy one, you wont be dissapointed!

BTW thanks for locating my deal so quickly how did you manage that?

I've just seen this thread as I'm after a LP style for my daughter.
How does the Encore P29 shape up please?
180158636511 or similar on ebay
#37
epiphone, is a part of or a company owned by gibson i think , i cant comment too much on the difference but if you ever came to sell it you would get more for the epiphone then the encore. some people i knew spent equivilent amounts on epiphone pauls to gibson studios ect (why i dont know) but it says to me their a sounder investment.

edit- epiphone was a big dog around ww2 and quality in some instances suppassed gibsons quality, however they were bought out and now ep pauls are made around the world - most likely china. so as i thought they are much like gibson squires

i would tend to buy bits individually rather then as a "bargin package" , though to be honest you cant really tell guitars apart until youve played them. Something like a yamaha (think they do a paul shape) and then trackdown a 2nd hand valvestate marshall amp. would obliterate an encore set
