I think im looking for something simple, white gold with a small round cut diamond (she is not one for exuberance :P)

Also how the hell do i work out the sizing? the OH is not one for wearing rings, nor does she have any! and i would quite like to get it right first time!

Herbert Brown's is a place where they are really helpful and have a good history been around nearly 150 years too, they are professionals not kids who can't be arsed and have 2nd hand pieces too

Also you should look out for the 4 C's when picking a diamond and ask the seller to review Colour, Clarity, Cut, Carat! on their chart!

GOOD GOD MAN...DONT DO IT!!!

Engagement rings are like insurance......you think you need it, but you dont.....and at the end of the days its a waste of time, money and effort......and grief coz you dont get any added value, the chick gets it...regardless.....LOL

High street I would say try Beaverbrooks or Ernest Jones.
Ring sizer hmmmmm. you can get them of ebay but you would hve to be sneaky and try to get her size when she is asleep!

Ernest Jones too xx

Take her to look for a friendship ring or something to have her finger measured xx

What's wrong with H,Samual btw? Got mine from there but the then girlfriend picked it out and said she MUST have it. We got out wedding rings from Beaverbrooks.

Burned too many times with poor quality goods so i steer clear now.

Get a good recommendation from someone who has used a local jeweller - I know one in Glasgow, but don't know if that helps. As someone else mentioned, ensure you're looking for the 4C's - most of the large scale jewellers charge a fortune for anything that's slightly better than a poor quality diamond - so take care!

As for sizing - gonna be a tough one without getting her ring finger in one of the gauges really. Perhaps you could have a laugh with it and give her a token ring (like a plastic kids one) for the moment, then take her to the shop to pick her size out? I know it kinda spoils the moment really.

Good luck anyhoo! :)

Yeah I guess, got an inherited wedding ring plated there and they had to send it back again as they didn't do it properly the first time. Not really a person to buy jewellery but will consider your feedback for next time.

Congratulations! I would only have jewellery from my brother who is a jeweller but if I had to go to the high st I would look at Ernest Jones and not much else. but the Tiffany engagement rings are rather lovely!

I like them, But the OH wouldn't like the Tiffany settings, they are far to raised and prominent
Plus on my wage i cant really afford 1400 :P
