Are Eon scamming people?

I applied to move my gas and electricity over to eon online, i recieved a letter through the post asking me to call them, which i did, to be told that because of the credit search they'd done on me, they would only offer me a prepaid card meter or i'd have to give them a £200 deposit. I work for a bank so i know my credit rating is good, but i got credit reports from experien and equifax anyway, and i have an excellent credit rating. I think they're just trying to get people to pay more on pre paid meters or bank £200 of your cash for 12 months, or am i being paranoid?

I'm not the only reason i was moving was to save money, but being told to get a copy of my credit file to find out why i was turned down only to be told i have a good rating was a tad annoying.

Have you lived at your address for a while? Some addresses can be blacklisted due to previous occupants' bad debts.
I've been with Eon for 2 years and they have been the best power company I've dealt with.
Don't think they would try to scam anyone

Adresses don't get a credit rating and therefore don't get black listed

They constantly try and rip off my parents so not that amazing.

Keep trying to increase their direct debits each month despite even in winter their electric being about £20-£30 a month to like £80 per month!

They use a coal fire to get hot water and heating so they dont have gas.

direct debit adjustments are automated by a computer. It takes a few years usage for the computer to average your direct debit payments. Ours is now £45 per month for both we go in credit over the summer and then this is used up over the winter. Stops us getting a suprise winter bill.

No they don't have a credit rating but can get blacklisted by the energy company because of previous owners. In that situation you need to phone them and talk to them about it.

Why don't they just move to another company then?

I switched to their eon saveonline 3 product, much cheaper per unit , it is paperless billing too so you get further discount, I have no complaints with E-On

Why do you assume they arent?

Because you didn't give me any reason to assume otherwise.
