Eurovision - Who's Looking Forward To It?

We always watch Eurovision and I'm really looking forward to it. From the sounds of the CD that came through yesterday it's going to be a good year.

My personal favoruite is DJ Bobo's 'Vampires Are Alive'. I don't know why, I just really like it. I like the Scooch song too - we definitely chose the best / most appropriate of the songs on offer.

It may sound sad, but I really can't wait. I've booked the Friday off work so that we can have a long Eurovision weekend. It's going to be great. We're going to watch te semi on the Thursday night, then last year's semi and final on Friday, and then this years final on Saturday.

Anyone else love Eurovision too?

Actually it's the other way around - my husband got me into Eurovision. It's a shame that so many people think it's rubbish, it's actually really good (in a funny way.) I'm not saying that the music is the best ever or anything, but you do occasionally get some good bands popping up, that you wouldn't ahve heard of otherwise eg. Brainstorm, who entered the first ever Latvian song into the contest in 2000 - we both fell in love with their entry, 'My Star' and imported some of their albums. They're a fantastic band. Admittedly, that sort of thing only happens every now and then, but Eurovision is a fun way to sepnd an evening (or two, with the semi final now). I look forward to it every year. We're hopefully going to get tickets to go one year.

I loved last year's winner, Lordi. But then I'm into rock music anyway. It was the best of the winners for a while.

Oh well, it's a shame that there aren't more fans out there.

I don't like Eurovision at all!

So true!!

The voting is all political. I'll watch the whole thing though, becasue I love Wogan's sarcastic commentary as he tries to predict who Portugal are going to give their points to... lol.

If he doesn't like it then why does he present it? 'Cause it's hilarious, that's why. It puts an actual smile on my real, actual face.

In case there's anyone on thsi forum that plans to watch Eurovision - don't forget that the semi is on tonight, on BBC Three. I'm really looking forward to it. :)
#11
House and ER or the semi........mmmmmmmmm
#12
You can get House and ER on DVD. Although you will also be able to get the semi on DVD too! I can't believe someone would want to watch House and ER over the semi final of ESC!
#13
youv'e got to be trolling surely?
#14
Trolling? Why am I trolling?

No, eurovision is great.

Well if your unfortunate (or perhaps fortunate in this case) enough to be blind and death.
#16
Oh well, I give up. I was just trying to drum up some interest in something that I (and many others) enjoy watching every year. But apparently I'm the one trolling, and not everyone else wh seems to ahve posted in my thread purely to say how rubbish they thing the ESC is.

:giggle: was that an unfortunate slip of the key?:giggle:

I watch it merely to see the broadcasting depths that Wogan can sink to.
How many times will he 'predict' Sweden voting for Finland, and Portugal voting for Spain, this year?
If the BEEB spruced up the coverage a little, I may enjoy it. At present, I merely watch to ridicule. It is a very tired formula IMO, and a waste of three hours viewing. It could be better, given some new 'blue sky thinking' at Wood Lane.
Dale Winton would be better than Wogan for this show. It's right up his street, if you know what I mean LOL

Oh, I realise that it is a big thing.

I heard the bbc gets literally 10s of viewers on the night.

Eurovision,

Yeah it can be ok - may have it on in the background whilst on here but not watch it for the full three hours.

Wish they hadn't cancelled Casulaty for it though!!!

We don't have Wogan on if we can help it - it's much better with the Ken Bruce commentary on. It may be a little tricky to do that this year though, as we'll be watching it on digital TV and DAB radio doesn't always sync very well with the TV.

Well I'm sure you'll have a really really lovely weekend (sarc). You must've known the sort of response you'd from starting a thread about Eurovision?!
#25
I dip in and out of it myself, I like Terry Wogan's commentary - think it's the best part of the whole proceedings!

Listening as he steadily gets more p***ed as the night drags on! :whistling:

No I didn't - on the DVD forums a a thread is started each year for Eurovision, and whilst not everyone there loves it, they don't react like you guys have here. There seems to be more Eurovision fans over there, which is probably why.

And yeah, I will have a good weekend.
#27
Whats the rules on people entering.
For example why cant Robbie Williams enter the eurovison
#28
Robbie Williams could enter if he wanted to. He just has to have a completely new song that hasn't been released before.

A lot of the bigger stars tend not to want to enter Eurovision because they're either not into it, or would think it will end their career. Looking at the hopefuls this year in 'Making Your Mind Up' it seemed to be the last chance saloon - a man with so much intelligence that he ran over his own head, a girl who used to be in Atomic Kitten and couldn't get a solo career off the ground, a French girl no one had heard of, an arrogant idiot who seems to think that because he was in the Darkness he's God and everything he does is wonderful, a failed pop band from the 90's, and Big Brovaz (who have always been completely rubbish in my opinion.)

It would've been good if we could've got Morrissey to enter. That said I do actually like the Scooch song and think it's just the sort of thing we need more of at Eurovision.
#29
We have started watching Eurovision over the last few years purely for Terry Wogan's drunken antics and the fact his comments get more and more sarky the drunker he gets! I love it :-D
#30
Wogan is dire. He is to comedy what Robert Mugabe is to democrasy.
#31
Eurovision is the biggest load of rubbish on the TV coming close is X Factor, Dancing on Ice and all related reality programmes.

Theres my bit, I bid you good day :p
#32
What time's it on tonight?

Last week I remember there was a particularly confident entry "We are the winners... of Eurovision" - needless to say they lost :giggle:
#33
It's on at 8. I'm not looking forward to it as much as I would've been had the Eastern European countries not dominated the voting in the semi on Thursday. None of my favourites got through (Andorra, Switzerland, Israel and Belgium.) Should still be good though, as France is my overall favoruite anyway. I'll be surprised though if the contest isn't won by an Eastern European country, given the voting results on Thursday.

Vote France!
