Excel Experts? - Locked Cells With Formulas But Can't Add More Rows

I am creating a spreadsheet for my friend which has loads of formulas which does the confusing calculations for my friend so I decided to lock those certain cells.

I've followed a few instructions from searches on Google in order to do the above but now the sheet seems to be protected to a certain extent where the user wont be able to add or delete cells or columns which is what I'm trying to figure out while having the certain cells with formulas still locked.

Any help appreciated and just to let people know, I'm using the Excel 2007 which is quite new to me.

Thanks.

Its "may" not be due to locking of those cells. Have you applied a style to rest of the blank cells ? Perhaps a grey background. Most of us do to make spreadsheets more presentable. If so you may try removing that style and/or deleting some rows from the end of the spreadsheet or some columns from the end

sorry to piggy back on this thread ...

but does anyone know how to get rid of this column here which appeared recently on the left side of my worksheet. i suspect it might have been a shortcut key for another application that i accidentally used ... i dont know what it is, looks like Undo steps or some kind of Macro but i cant be sure so i have not been able to find it in Help.

rep for the one who has the solution. thanks in advance! :)

Think what you provide depends on what they need to see and have access to.

You could just create a summary sheet which links to the cells you want from the one with all the formulae in - Then just hide the sheet with the source data. That way they can just add extra cells/rows,columns etc in the summary sheet without changing anything in the source sheet.

You could also use the Edit, Copy Move Sheet function to copt the sheets and then link all the cells with data to the master sheet - Then hide the source. They can then edit as they see fit and still get back to the master sheet if they need to. They can also add cells/rows/columns etc as above without any impact on the original sheet.

Not sure if that's good enough but might be a start.

That looks like you have selected Subtotals from one of the menu options - Under Data somewhere I think.
