Just wondered if anyone had any experience of buying and using home exercise bikes as we are thinking of getting one but want one that actually works the way it should. any advice will be appreciated.

Yes they are brilliant for hanging clothes on, as a tool for exercise in me experience totally useless.

^----- THIS. You totally won't use it after about three weeks. The novelty will wear off and it will soon be draped with clothes awaiting ironing. Mine also doubled as an airer for sheets. I would suggest you try out a proper gym trial first, and if you keep at it, then get something for the home (or get a real bike and go outside - shock horror!), otherwise it'll be a triffic waste of money and space. Unless you've loads of money and need a new clothes horse.

lol i do see your point. i was a member of a gym and went regularly a while back but we lived much nearer then. just wondered if they feel and work as well as ones at the gym.

I think they fall into a similar category to footspas, in that you always see them at car boots and freecycle, If you really want to try one out, dont waste tour money, have a look on freecycle, they regularly appear on my local one.

Now, I do use my footspa - means I'm stuck in my chair and someone else has to run around after the sprogs for a little while!

I use mine or the treadmill when playing ps3 and watching tv and use my actual bike in the mournes or forests (need a new one soon I think) . If you need motivation get a treadmill or bike and use it while playing games/watching movies tv and/or listening to music, by it's self some people don't have the state of mind to keep going.

what kind of bike do you have? is one with magnetic resistence the way to go?

I use the York C101 (great) and it uses magnetic resistance but I do not have extensive knowledge on the best bikes.

look in local papers / local ebay for second hand ones. about a tenth of the new price and probably only ever had a few hours use!
