Exhaust silencer fallen off!!

Hi all,

Having a bit of a nightmare this evening.
Had my exhaust silencer suddenly fall off the car today (looks to have corroded).

The thing is, I have an interview tomorrow 25miles away.
Is it safe to drive as long as I'm careful, and then get it seen to on Friday?

No train routes/bus routes.
:-(

a danger to other roads users probably. but I'm sure the OP doesn't care about that, since he/she let the car get into such a state in the first place.

Thanks for the constructive comment.
Hitting people when they're down is just charming.

just make sure nothing else can fall off and go for it, oh and i prob wouldnt pull into your interviewers carpark with a car that sounds like a tank :)
remember your car may stall, use more fuel and be very loud too

or see if quick fit or whoever could sort it out first thing in the morning ?

Thanks, interview's at 09:00 (it would be, wouldn't it!?)
Strange, as it passed it's MOT less than a month ago - not even an advisory on the exhaust system..

50 miles is quite a distance if you've no silencer, I had a Rover Metro 1.1S where the tailpipe of the silencer fell off unexpectedly and the car was so down on power and making so much noise it was pretty much undriveable. It depends where you're going but if a police cars sees you they may want a word.

It's best not to respond to our resident troll. Unless you enjoy that sort of thing.

If it's just the backbox and it's not too far it'll be fine imo.

so you don't agree that driving the vehicle without checking whether anything else is gonna fall off into traffic behind would be dangerous?

do you really check your car over completely including underneath the car (exhaust) before you drive it?

OP had an MOT last month. I would expect an advisory if the exhaust was that bad.

Personally, I would ring up the interviewer and explain the situation. If they cant accommodate a time change for the interview, then its not the type of company I would like to work for anyway. If they agree, then get the exhaust repaired before you set off on the 50 mile round trip.

I wouldnt drive it as the rest could fall off and kill someone in a worst case scenario!

I'm on about driving today.

If part of the exhaust had fallen off, then yes - too right I'd be checking it. Like I said - do you want to be driving behind it today?
