if it's a digital camera you should have EXIF info already embedded automatically onto each photo you take.

free softwares.

2. http://irfanview.com/

not free software.

When you upload them onto your computer the files will be dated then when the files were created will they not?

+ 1
but to be more specific, more recent digicamera will tell windows the date the pictures taken (the date the file created is the date when the files is copied from the camera/memory card to the harddisk)

Correct, not only is the date and time embedded. The make/model/serial number of your camera is often too. If the camera has GPS even the coordinates the pictures were taken at are recorded.

EXIF date/time stamps are separate from the file date/time.

Yep, but doesn't the OP just want to stamp the date and time on his pic which may be required for certain projects. I would have thought that was a more complex thing to do on a digital camera at source lthough I am aware one of my earliest Kodak digital cameras did it years ago. I have a Nikon D300, I'm not even sure if that does it!

Point taken, but the mere thought of having date/time permanently stamped onto my photos makes my neck hair stand up.

Date stamping is so last century. Just get an app for your PC, and let it use the exim data to add the date after.

yes! bingo!

called me old fashioned but i like my photos in real print as in in my hand. and on the photos id like a date stamp. what im saying that this camera does not even give the user this OPTION!

everyone a few years ago thought printed papers, mags will soon be dead with all the online stuff taking off, years later my corner shop is still selling papers - point being theres no option.

as for irfanview etc but this means more work having to add the date to each photo - tedious, laborious

surely photos are there to be viewed in years to come a date stamp is so vital dont you guys think!

i thought they removed the date/time stamp on cameras because universally people complained about them. i should imagine with future prints maybe you can print not just your filename at the back but the date/time stamp option too.

have you tried this trick? lick a dash on the emulsion surface of the photo (test it first with a photo you're not using) then leave it a couple minutes before it dries up and scrawl your date/time on it. permanent of course.
