I have been having credit problems for years, but only paid BT bill late about twice in 18 months, and credit card bill once so why is it so low?

Why is it so low?

The report is far more vague than I thought.

BTW what does a lender see when they do a credit check? everything I have applied for in the last few months, the last few items etc

Well I just wanted to know just how bad it was seeing as for years my credit seems to get worse, 4 years ago I couldnt get a bank account but got a mobile.

6 years ago I couldnt get a bank account, hire a television, but could get a mobile.

Now cant even get a mobile.

I dont understand when I rarely pay bills late, and the only times I have it has been banking errors

from what i can make out, i think lender takes into consideration the number of credit you have had, so if you have only had credit for a couple of things then that could be detrimental. also if you have had any county court judgements, they would be weary

So how has your score of 158 out of 1000 helped you?

credit scores by all accounts are a load of tosh, they do nothing for you. You need to look through your credit history, experian, and theres twop others i think, i see if there is anything that is showing up on them. Also if you have a samll credit history it is hard to get more, we also have an amount of credit we can get depending on circumstances

They relieve you of your cash. :gift:

Credit seems to be changing as banks get more desperate to win new custom and build their repayments. I've been offered loans and a credit card 'without a credit check- guaranteed to get the money in your account today' when i've gone to pay cheques in recently. One was from the Halifax, which is my old student account. According to their records, I have paid in less than a grand over the last year (ebay sales and b'day cheques etc)- and they offered me up to £8500 regardless 'for being a good customer'. I'm one of those people who studiously avoids loans and debt (bar student loans) and buys stuff when i've got the money in the bank to do so. It strikes me as being very dangerous that they offer loans and ccs regardless of income...
Hell, I even waited to buy my flat because I didn't want to have a mortgage!

Scores can be based on your name, previous credit searches, refusals, late payments. It can also be based on your address, previous tenants of your address and what they got up to. In some instances whole streets have been refused credit.

Credit scores from experian are pretty useless (i'm too savvy to actually pay for one mind) because each lender makes their own score up. The FREE credit report (with Quidco bonus) is actually pretty good though and can highlight problems. I had 1 red mark on my report from GE Capital. Makes no odds to other lenders but GE won't let me have sod all even though it was nearly SIX years ago AND it was their mistake because they sent my statements to the wrong bloody address. Sham of a company
