Amazing price for this highly specced Laptop. The only things I can fault are the integrated graphics and the weight, but you won't find any Core 2 Duo system comparable to this for such a low price anywhere, trust me.

After 4 months is there still not a laptop to beat this for price and performance, if it is back available from play I would go with this as the last one I purchased is elsewhere now
#3
anybody yet received their free Vista upgrades yet for this??? still patiently waiting for mine here, my order status on Moduslink is still 'approved'
#4
nope, emailed them a week ago but nothing yet. they sent me an email in march saying email us in 4-6 weeks if you havnt got anything so i did.
#5
no sign of the vista upgrade here as well..
#6
nor for me either......just waiting......

Does anybody have any experience of the Bluetooth setting? I wanted to use it to for music on my Sony Ericsson K700i, rather than using a USB dongle. However, the documentation for the Bluetooth is pretty well non-existant, just bundled in under the FCC compliance literature and wireless Wi-Fi etc.

The hotkeys don't seem to do anything except turn the Wi-Fi on and off.

All suggestions welcome,

Nige

Still nothing about vista upgrade.
#8
did eventually receive the vista upgrades from the Acer deals few weeks ago - and when upgraded have had misery of lost sound despite reinstalling drivers, and certain other glitches :x
-so not entirely sure why I was so excited to be upgrading to vista as caused plenty of prolonged frustration
#9
no sign of my Vista up grade either :x

calenture the pro wireless tip you passed on where can i get just the drivers ?
#10
This doesn't have bluetooth built in, does it?
#11
i did wonder as the F6 key is the bluetooth sign
#13
hello, was just wondering whether this is still in stock as the website seems to have added one to my basket when I clicked the link on the other thread? Anyone ordered recently? Thanks
#14
By all means try and order it, the worst they could say is 'sorry we don't sell it anymore' and not charge you. But I tried searching for it on their website (without using the direct link from the thread) and couldn't find it listed on their website... I'm guessing then from that that they haven't got it in stock.

My Vista upgrade order has finally been shipped according to the order tracker! Has anybody received their upgrade yet?
#16
Anybody who had to make payment by bank transfer after having credit card or other issues beware! I initially made my vista upgrade order by credit card and then had an email to say my card had been declined and to make a bank transfer instead, which I did.

My vista upgrade order has now been dispatched, but they have charged the original credit card I initially used. So I've paid twice :x. I've sent them an email requesting a refund. I suggest anybody who has paid by bank transfer keep an eye out for MODUSLINK BV appearing on their credit card statements.
#17
I haven't received the Vista upgrade yet, but the payment has appeared on my credit card, when checking my cc online.
#18
Anyone receive their copy of Vista yet? My Order Status says "Order is Approved" but no sign of anything yet.
#19
Mine says it's been shipped and the payment has recently been taken off my credit card too... no sign of it through my letterbox yet though. Will update when I receive it.
#20
My Vista upgrade has just now arrived in the post! :santa: It includes a seperate drivers and applications updrade cd from Gateway.
#21
my Vista upgrade arrived this morning :) not sure if i'll install it at the moment what with all the issues there seem to be.
#22
Yep, mine arrived last Friday as well. Don't think I'll install at the mo though. It seems to suggest reformatting the hard drive as the preferable option prior to installation. I'm still setting programs up, so don't really want to do that!!!

It does lead to a question though, that perhaps someone can answer please?

These notebooks came with XP MCE. Now I'm familiar with XP, but not sure exactly what the MCE will do for me, but the question is, is the Vista we have received an MCE equivalent, or is MCE integral in Vista? ie, is it worth me doing things with XP MCE, when it is all in Vista?

Hope the above makes sense....

Thanks, Nige
#23
edit: sorted.

mine hasn't been despatched yet.

I have installed Vista on my Gateway Laptop. It is running very smoothly and I have had no major problems whatsoever. I chose to do a clean install of Windows Vista and I deleted the Gateway rescue partition on the hard drive during the installation as I had already made my XP recovery CD's.

The installation went well and took about 20 mins overall. Once installation had finished, I set up my wireless internet connection, (vista had drivers for the in-built wireless) and I ran windows update. After a reboot from the windows update, I ran it again to pick anything else up. A quick check of the device manager told me that the only problem with regard to drivers was the Flash reader. I installed the driver for this off the drivers and applications CD provided. I also installed software off the CD such as PowerDVD.

The Aero interface runs smoothly and I've had no problems with that aspect in regards to performance. The BigFix software on the CD has crashed a few times but I think that's just a problem with that software. I uninstalled it again as it never has anything useful to report.

I'm still playing around with the settings and overall I rate it as a cool polished version of XP. However, I don't think I would have paid out for the full priced upgrade for Vista had the express:whistling: upgrade programme not been around - Vista looks cool and the aero interface is nice - but I can't see any major advantages over XP for my needs.

Thanks for the info a great help

Hi All, Just got word that my Vista has been posted. In the meantime I have flashed my bios with the latest update from the Gateway site. They recommended it be done for the Vista install. Just wondering if anyone else has done the same?? [word of warning- novice users do NOT do this procedure. If you make a mistake the notebook may not post]

Cheers, xmal

just wondering, does this laptop have built in bluetooth?

has anyone used the multicard reader? i think mine may be faulty, it won't read my card. although it could be the card that is faulty.

no vista for me yet
#31
No bluetooth.

Card reader has read my SD cards and my GF's memory stick no problem.
#32
No Vista for me yet and no response when I request advice on whats happening
#33
Don't suppose anyone can advise on a system restore. I have a boot up failure so when I got the laptop I created the system restore disk as requested. Now I run the restore and the process insitis on a second disk which i don't have so I can't run it...!

Confused.

Any help so gratefully appreciated.

#34
Doz, if you applied for the Vista upgrade you should be able to do a full reinstall. Not the best solution granted if you have valuable data on the HD, but at least it will allow you to use the machine again. BTW folks, my Vista discs arrived today :)
#35
I havent got my Vista Upgrade yet despite having a Confirmation/Order number.

When I go to

https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/Vista/HP/(S(seyyui452vkhdc55ldhr2r55))/GlobalLandingPage.aspx?oem=HP&Lang=

to check order status I get "The provided order number or Certificate of Authentication number is no longer available in our system. Please click "]here to contact customer service. "

My emails to Customer Services get no reply. Whe I dial the given number 00800 666 44 666 I am told by a recorded voice "you have dialled an invalid number" !

Help please. What do I do? I want to talk to a human being and to sort out this problem

I had the same problem couple of days back. I had created 2 restore CD's as instructed but it asked me for a third disk ! Called up Gateway support and they sent me a restore DVD which works.

LOL, after all that effort to get the Vista upgrade :)

Can you sell it on eBay.
#39
Anyone know if this laptop reads an SDHC card (as opposed to and SD Card which I know it has no problems with) ??
#40
No, you'll need an adapter. SDHC is not bacward-compatible with SD.
