Google "data recovery". You can try the downloads but I doubt you'll get much joy. If you've got something that you have to recover then one of the recovery services will probably be able to do it for you. But, it'll cost a fair bit more than the hard drive. :x

A boot sector error might be causing this. tbh I really doubt if it is a boot sector error. There is all possibility of a physical damage since you mentioned you dropped your hard drive.

If you are confident enough try using testdisk data recovery (FREE). If that works great.

If not then give iomega a call and they will sort out the data recovery but I am sure they will charge a hefty fee for that.

Good luck!

best advice i can give is.... you only get one shot... get some really good recovery software that blind reads the drive, get a spare drive with enough space. put your original drive in the freezer over night and then next day copy it across.... a nd pray!

the files have been recovered and i have put them on an external hard drive, the files all show up correctly but when i try to open any i get an error. it seems that the files are currupt.

everything is there but nothing works.

anyone got a solution.

That might be a 'permissions' problem. Are you logged in as an Administrator or a normal user?

One brute-force way to work-around permissions is to copy a few files to a USB memory stick (since memory sticks are almost always FAT32 which does not have permissions). Now try to open a copy of one of the files that is on the stick.
