Any advise truly appreciated.

I bought one of the 80Gb core hdd off here which supports USB 2.0. I have a cinema surround system - Samsung 2.1ch with samsung lct tv.

Now when I connect the hdd through the main usb (it has 2 usb) to the surround system, it is recognised but I can't see anything on the tv.

Is there a specific connection I need to have between the surround system and the tv? I already have hdmi connection between the two.

Many Thanks!

Your surroun sound system has 2 USB ports?
I'm not clued up on them, but it sounds odd.
#2
Think your going to have to supply model number for us to work this one out. But being Samsung one of them is probably a service port and the other one logicly been a sound system will probably only support audio.

Does the TV not have a USB port?

Thesaint, it's the usb cable for the hdd that has 2 usb ends. I read this is to support Win 7. So I connect one (the main usb end) to the surround system (this has only one usb port). So, not sure if the hdd works on connecting both usb ends as I do when I connect it to my laptop.
Thanks

The 2 usb ports are not because of windows 7! One will be data and the other one will be for power.

More likely for older laptops which didn't supply enough power through one USB port.

Ok makes more sense now. The second usb is used to add additional power as USB2 only supplies 500mA and this drive must need more power to run. So you will need to use a mains to usb adaptor ( a usb smartphone power adaptor may well work)

But first I would check to see if the USB input on your system supports more than audio.

I go with thesaint. The 2 USB leads are if they don't provide enough power for the drive on 1.
#10
Looking at your system when you have it powered up it only supports divX (3.11-5.1) format .avi's

So, do you mean one will go into the system and the other to mains through an adapter? Is this what GAVINLEWISHUKD is referring to?

I will get that. So, once I connect both usb ends, would the tv automatically display what's on the hdd? Thanks

It will only play divX standard (3.11-5.1) .avi's (would guess on the root of the disk only)

Hi There,

I got the usb power adapter and tried it but nothing comes up on the TV. I connected 1 usb end to the power adatper and the other to the usb port of the theatre system. The message on the system was either No USB or USB (I did swapped the cable around as not sure which is for power or data) with no picture on the TV. TV also says No USB. Not sure what else. I might check whether the movies are stored at the root of the HDD or not.

Thanks

How big are the files you want to play? The drive may need to be formatted to fat32.

Hi jtx

Forgot to add that it plays on my laptop but would like to connect it directly to the home theatre system via usb

You could try formatting the drive to fat32 using HP format tool and then copying the files over again.
