Extra cash!

Me and the missus are at the stage now where we are nearing a position of us being able to start looking for our first property.
I have a steady job and the girlfriend is just about to start a years cover as a teacher so that will bring in good money.

I know once we start paying out for bills and stuff we are likely to find it tough. I am already looking into moving gyms as well as the missus which would save us £65 a month.

What I am after is ideas as to how I could make money on the side. (apart from Ebay)
Not mega money but a few quid here and there. I dont want to "work" weekends which would be the obvious option as I like my free weekends. Im thinking of things in the evenings?

Any ideas or even things that you do?
It would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

Dont think of extra work to help as it dries up.. seriously do what your doing by looking at your outgoings and tweek them. Thats a consistant way of doing it without relying on other money.

Stuff like Bar work, fixing peoples computers etc if you can do it may help but its not regular money.

Ive been tweeking mine as i realised i actually waste alot of my money on random spending

You must be a pretty bad escort if you need to supplement it with a paper round X)

thanks for some of the replies. I know tweaking is the place to start but it would be nice to have an extra little bit of spare cash.

s2rocks, do you use that odesk?
Is it reliable?

Have used it a couple of times, you have to bid for the job, and if you get it the payment turns up quickly... Not sure if it's the best of these services, but there is a level of protection for both you and the person advertising.

The wife got a £300 transcription job that took her 2 hours, paid in full.

thats pretty impressive to be honest, not sure what I could do on there. some admin stuff would be ok I suppose. Do you actual deal with the person over the phone or is it all done via the site?

a friend of mine, who is also a teacher, put cards up in the entrance hall of local flats offering baby sitting. She does live in London, so the rates are fairly good, but if you choose the areas for advertising carefully, e.g. in high end apartment buildings, this could be a great way of earning some extra cash!

Have you checked whether your wife's temporary job will count towards you getting a mortgage, I mean if she doesn't get work quickly after that contract has ended ?

s2 rocks, i just checked out that odesk, it looked great at first just what i needed until i looked closer and realised most of the jobs posted are only interviewing bids of about $2-$4 an hour.

Am i missing something or is there just loads of indians and such working for nothing on there.

please dont over stretch yourselfs and really on cash from otheer jobs to pay your out goings, its always better to live within your means to start with as if you were to loose the second job or have to give it up it could mean not being able to afford your home espec when the interest rates start going up again.

i thought you also needed 6 months payslips and proof of a permanent job?

In some instances you do but as the girlfriend will be on an actual teachers contract there shouldn't be a problem. And most places have said that we don't need 6 months.

you may have misunderstood me and apologies if I didnt make it clear, what I meant was that we would obviously get a mortgage within the scale of what we can afford with our wages but it would be nice to have the extra cash to maybe use for enjoyment, like nights out, or meals etc etc.

Like I said, you have to bid for the work, and obviously it will go to the lowest bidder, but as with everything, reputation and a bit of time and you can start getting the better paid stuff.

s2rocks, just wondering if all contact is made via email or if there is telephone calls involved?

Check all your current suppliers of bills, when they're for renewal etc - Gas/Electricity combos are usually cheapest. NPower gave me about £100 cashback alone!

Also use Quidco for everything! New phone contracts, gym?, Sky package & even online shopping too. Also only buy special offers...If one store does not have butter on special, then another outlet will & then I buy loads of it. I have a whole cupboard of various pasta sauces alone, especially as they keep for a long time. Buying what's on special is also a great way to try new foods!

Carboot sale - I raised £120 from my last one & still got loads of clutter left!
Credit cards, if you have any then move them all onto 0% APR.
Open a Santender account, £100 for just opening & you can get £50 Quidco from it too. Easy money!
A big maaahusive jar to collect all your coins at the end of the day. I put everything in there from 1p to £2 & it can easily add up fast.
Matched betting - Before everyone raises their eyebrows this is not your everyday way of betting. Can be quite tricky to learn but once done, is a fairly safe way of yielding a nice return. In short you are the punter AND the bookmaker & take the difference

I believe the key to saving is doing a lot of your everyday things in life online. Going to the cinema? book it online & intantly save $$ - Qudico again!

Good luck :D

Not a biggie, but join topcashback and get cashback on things like general shopping, when you take out insurance, ebay purchases etc, I get about £10 - £20 / month and I use it to treat myself.
